Hi all, hoping for some advice with my 5 year old DD's hair please. She has the most beautiful curls, but recently they've become really dry and not so curly!
I've attached a pic which is from Instagram but exactly the same as DD's.
I'm wondering if it might need a trim? It's never been cut before. I'm really anxious that her curls will be gone though- she loves them!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Curly hair is hard work - speaking from experience of my 3c curls and DDs 3a curls.

1.) Satin pillowcase to prevent damage and frizz
2.) never comb dry, comb very gently (I love a denman comb) with tons of conditioner on.
3.) when rinsing out conditioner leave a bit in for slip
4.) never dry hair with a towel, use a jersey/cotton t shirt and let that soak up the excess water
5.) put moisture products on whilst hair is damp after letting t shirt soak excess, comb product gently through in sections (don't have to do a million sections just want to be sure product gets to most of the hair)
6.) get a curly girl/deva hair cut for bounce and nice layers if included to
7.) only shampoo once a week or so to get rid of product build up - use conditioner instead to clean scalp if you need to
8.) sleep with it tied up in loose pineapple (google) with loose satin scrunchie
9.) if hair drying do so with head upside down for nice volume and on the lowest heat possible
10.) curls usually need refreshing day 2/3, so spritz lightly in sections with water (can get bottles on Amazon) and revamp with a light product. Scrunch gently, and let hair dry or dry it as above

Also my hairdresser has curly hair so knows how it lies/works.
I use Cantu argan cream after washing but my hair has a diff texture to your DDs so not sure whether it would be heavy for her?

I have much the same hair as your daughter and think this is great advice.

Hi all, can I ask how you style / put your girls hair in a pony tail etc without brushing?

liveforsummer · 19/12/2021 15:58

I hang scrape it up with my fingers. The curls are too tight to look smooth anyway it's just a messy/bumpy ponytail

I've never gone on the CG Facebook Groups but I would recommend using a CG range as they are generally much much more moisturising than non CG products.

Curly hair loves moisture - it wants far more conditioner than you think is sane.

There are a few ranges out there designed for children, Curly Ellie is one, Curly Q is another (Curly Qs Milkshake is probably the best ever product I ever used on my hair) - just pick a range and try it out.

In answer to how do you style the hair without brushing - with enough conditioner you should be able to style it with fingers alone. If you can't do that, you aren't using enough.

Just back to agree re amount of conditioner. You need to use more than you think you could possibly need.... then add another massive dollop. Or possibly two.

I've just bought the spray on leave in conditioner in the Moroccan oil range we've already highlighted. Interested to see how it pans out.

I also really like Palmer’s Coconut Leave in conditioner spray. Needs to be applied to wet hair.
