Nails sore and infected after acrylics??

I've had acrylics on since October, I've had infills but it's been the same set. I took them off last night and they're so sore and they've got green marks on them (the photo isn't great) even water or slight touch causes pain.
What can I do?

Green nail syndrome?
Although the actual nail isn’t generally sore, just around the nail.

I’ve no experience of acrylic nails, could it be sore because of how they were removed?

Greenies! It's when water has been trapped under your nail it grows bacteria as soon as the air hits the nail the bacteria dies creating the green colour it shouldn't be sore though so many see a pharmacist!

I get really sore nails after a take any polish off. If you google it it's not that uncommon so it could just be that which should ease off in a few days. Otherwise it could be trauma from the removal, it doesn't look like it was done very gently. Nothing looks infected to me - the skin would be red and swollen and weeping and nails go thick and white/yellow when they're infected.

When I used to wear nail polish regularly I would get ultra sensitive nails after removal. It was one of the reasons I stopped wearing it so often.

BusterGonad · 16/12/2021 19:24

I'm no expert but I'd personally be rubbing some kind of skin oil into them.

This. Ditch your nail tech and go see a Pharmacist.

Urgg. Another reason to add to my cons list for stuff done to nails.

PlacidPenelope · 16/12/2021 19:35

Did you take them off (and how?) or did you have them removed properly?

Your nails are probably sore because you've taken a layer of your own nail off when removing them.

I would go and see a pharmacist and see if they have anything you could put on your nails.

I've been having gel manicures for years. Never had this happen.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/12/2021 19:52

Depends on how clean the salon is. If the tools are disinfected between clients. Yes this can happen when things aren’t hygienic. It’s not a good sign. Seek medical advice.

LumosSolem · 16/12/2021 20:27

Oh @namechangedaily ouch,you poor thing!

No advice but just wanted to say I think your nails look like they'd be lovely naturally, they look like they'd grow to a lovely shape.

Ditch the acrylics and grow your own!

Hope they recover soon.

Thesechipsdontlie · 18/12/2021 19:41

Looks like paronychia, looks like the salon isn't sterilising between clients. Metal should go in an autoclave, or a UV box for anything else.

Transmitted via tiny breaks in the nail bed/cuticle in each client (or even the technician herself) mainly as far as I remember

Avoid them in future, try an antiseptic cream in the mean time or ask your gp.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/12/2021 20:30

It’s not great hygiene. I wouldn’t go back.

TriciaMcMillan · 19/12/2021 11:24

@Shmithecat2 exactly. This is poor practice and/or hygiene, not an inevitable result of manicuring.

Suggest a visit to the pharmacist for an antifungal cream and keep them varnish free and short until they've recovered.

Once the fungal infection is treated, you might consider using a nail strengthener as they look like they've taken off the top layers of your nail. Did they use a drill?
