Last night I did something drastic

I have an entire rail of clothes in a dressing room. (small bedroom - rail mounted on wall)
Everything is on there from jackets to dresses and tops to coats ( and my partners suits)
I go in there and look for something to wear and can never find a bloody thing so yesterday I started at one end and removed things I do not use.

I filled a bag. Granted - some of the clothes were summer things, but the vast majority was old and stuff I have not worn for a very long time.
The rail looks decidedly thinner.
I still don't like what is left !

I think there is a comfort to be found from looking at lots of clothes even though none of them are fit to wear.
When something is expensive like a dress bought for a wedding as an example, I tend to hang on to it because of the cost and for no other earthly reason. I am determined to stop behaving like this. I would love to have just a few things I can wear - actually wear !

Ooh i once had a wardrobe like this. You'd think we'd be spoiled or choice but it tied my mind in knots.
I did the whole 'get shut if it doesn't spark joy' thing, although kept some practical stuff aside, which is sensible.

I had this jumper from cos, a lovely back cotton thing, received compliments when i wore it. Then it sat there or 5 years on the hanger, staring at me. Then we started to ignore each other. After a year or two we actively started to avoid each other.
And then one day, I whipped it off the hanger and stuffed it into the 'put away for potential charity' bag. It was an invisible weight lifted off me.

I didnt like it, i didnt think it suited me, and even though it was nice, we were not even chums let alone in love. I decided from then on that I would only keep what was extremely useful or loved. A lot of shit left the building.

That said, we cant love everything. It isnt practicable. But if you are going to spend, like really spend, it has to be really loved, I think. I make mistakes and they are painful, but such is life shopping online.

I will put the bag in the loft. If I do not miss anything within a month I will charity shop it depending upon my resolve :)

I'm pretty cross with myself, I packed up a charity bag last week and accident put one of favourite dresses in there! Sad I cant find it and it's nowhere in my wardrobe or in the wash so it's gone! I could kick myself for not checking the bag properly.

I needed to get that off my chest Grin

Can't you go to the shop and buy it back ?

It was one of those leave outside your front door type collections Sad I usually use those as a way of clearing things like old clothes, sheets etc.

If it's only purpose is to look at them it's not a wardrobe it's a collection. Nothing wrong with collecting if it brings you comfort and doesn't stray into hoarding. But you need stuff to wear too!

It was so full you couldn't see the clothes properly and the comfort was only in my eyes :) You wouldn't have wanted a collection like it I promise you. Some of it was eBay stuff that had seen better days and that was before I got my mitts on it :) Every time I buy second hand clothes on eBay I tell myself never again but then... well I haven't done it in a while, not since I bought a pair of size 7 boots that were a size three and the seller would not take them back............. Oh I forgot about the kaftan...

Anyway I tried each item on and asked myself would I buy it in a shop now. They all went into the bag.

I am reducing my wardrobe by at least 50%, so far 8 bags have gone to the charity bin and I feel great! There’s still more to go 😊
I’m determined that when we move house next year only things I love or actually need go with us!
