Suspect my ankle boots are old fashioned

Hello for YEARS I have worn the same style ankle boot, black suede, zip at side, very slight heel. My last pair died and I struggled to find any in the shops, this was my first clue that i was hanging on to the olden days!

When i look around the feet of colleagues (i am 45 they are 10 years younger) they seem to have quite "clompy" boots on!

Can someone suggest a black boot for work that wont make me horribly out of fashion, but also not too ab fab "try hard"?

(Work is business casual. I used to live in black trousers and my standard boot, now we only need to go in 2 days and people seem to wear jeans etc if they dont have meetings)

I am lost.

I wear schuh..... their black Chelsea boot....bit chunky but not madly so

I have the ones @CharlotteRose90 has linked to. They're not the height of fashion but work well for my corporate work place, with dresses and trousers. Chunkier boots wouldn't be right here.

They're comfortable too!

For my part I've been wearing lace up ankle boots since my teens so it's brilliant they are in fashion, not like the famine years of the 2010s.

I've got the Clarks boots linked, they are quite casual in that nubuck leather. I have my eye on All Saints Donita biker boots for work, more polish, more detail, more the sort of thing to add impact to an outfit. They are over your budget but there are less expensive versions.

AllKnowingGerbil · 10/12/2021 13:33

Thanks everyone

The ones @CharlotteRose90 has posted are quite like my current ones. So maybe they arent old fashioned after all!

I quite like the Clark's ones but cant picture them at work.

Maybe I should invest in some DM Chelsea boots. I've seen those worn with black tights and skirt..but then I need a whole bloody wardrobe!

I think both styles are fine nowadays.
I wear docs, but always did, and have loved a clomper in my time!
And right now, i also love those sharp, elegant navy suede booties at Boden ..

I like a clompy tall boots, a sharp narrow ankle boot, flat soles, chunky soles, the works! It's cool that all styles are out there now.

We should probably define what is current, rather than allowing some quick trend to do it or us. Know your strengths and capitalise on them - i something you love is in the shops, but it. Micro-trends (toe shape, heel style) will pass quickly and rob you of money. Go or the one that suits your look, very few boots are dated now, it's a bit like anything goes.

And fuck what teens wear, they're malleable and still finding who they are.

beatrixpotterspencil · 10/12/2021 13:44

if something you love is in the shops, buy it

The shiny one ? I have it too and love it :)
Kitkat151 · 10/12/2021 13:59

@Anordinarymum..... yes😁

CrimbleCrumble1 · 10/12/2021 14:00

I always buy mine from M&S, have you looked in there? They have clumpy and not clumpy.

And such a good price too !

AllKnowingGerbil · 10/12/2021 14:11

Oh well it's good if "anything goes" bootwise at the minute!

I think in the new year I'll treat myself to some new work clothes and maybe embrace a clumpy boot!

If it helps, I have Doc Martens and other clumpy boots. I also have nice knee length boots and pretty lace up ones to wear with a skirt. For Christmas I am getting a pair of slouch boots from River Island - the ones with a small heel.

You wear what you want and not what society pushes you into thinking you need

beatrixpotterspencil · 10/12/2021 14:19

Remember the isabel marant 'DIcker' boots?
Suede, slightly western style, a neat bootee with a slight easy to wear heel?
It was around 2010 and it seemed the entire style conscious internet was hunting for them. I had a pair in taupe, and they were truly lovely, so soft and stylish, went well with jeans (any style) and skirts/dresses. A versatile boots. It seems fashion cycles come around a lot quicker than they used to.

Well, this style is back, so if you bought any, get em out again! Grin

I tried a pair like that from White Stuff @beatrixpotterspencil, lovely but so narrow.

I do support the whole "wear whatever you like and fuck em" idea. But sometimes you dont want to look like a frumpy mum, and need to embrace new things, so am wanting to try a new style x

beatrixpotterspencil · 10/12/2021 14:56

But what does a frumpy mum look like?
I dare say we would all have a different impression of that?

Is it some inner, secret terror that is really an image of ourselves having lost our way, or is it manufactured 'out there' to make us feel bad about ourselves?
Im not a mum, and have no idea if people think i am frumpy! It's all a wild gamble as we are all so very different!

CaliforniaDrumming · 10/12/2021 15:06

I am v unfashionable-wfh for ever- and bought the Clarks boots mentioned upthread. Glad to see they are ok! I don't want to go any clumpier and they are super comfortable.
