Accesories for a toddler's gold dress...

krabbiepatty · 17/12/2007 21:40

It is a sort of dance-style dress with a velour top and a tutu-ish skirt. I am making it sound unutterably foul and it is actually incredibly fetching and "sparkulllee" and a delight to its owner. She is going to wear it to Christmas but I cannot think what to put on her legs and feet that won't make it look ridiculous. Grateful for suggestions / links...

"Accessories" - ugh a typo in the subject line, ughhhhh. Never type without specs on.

Are these any good or are we talking yellow rather than white gold?

krabbiepatty · 17/12/2007 21:45

Those are rather adorable, Marina - I will try find a pic of dress to assist. It is a caramelly gold if that makes any sense

So, almost bronze then?
I think if I tried to describe some of dd's most beloved attire I would run into similar difficulties

Ok, I am including this link with enormous trepidation because it makes the dress look grotesque (and the wrong colour) and I also have belatedly realised that am proposing to dress daugher in what is in fact a dressing-up outfit for Christmas. (Note to self: never go shopping without specs). But she really does look ravishing (being a stout party under two with auburn curls). www.oliverbonas.com/p/486590.htm?SSID=b3e2a6de-4627-44bb-bbd2-ac6370c2cb66

I'm quite a fan of Alice-in-Wonderland-ish dark tights when frills & furbelows are being otherwise worn - and actually I think very simple black patents (Zara, or similar, is bound to do black patent ballet slippers) would be nice with that. Little black cardie would work too.

MariNativityPlay · 17/12/2007 21:52

I am imagining more wine, or teal, with it Cali
Both of which colours are singularly absent from Monsoon's range this time
Krabbie, surely there's a pair of sweet little shoes on that page that will contrast/tone with her dress

Maybe these tights

with these pumps

MariNativityPlay · 17/12/2007 21:54

Hot damn that's yellow, but I am sure it's the photography
x posted with bink, if we are talking that degree of goldness then plain shoes and cream tights with a toning cardigan will look great
Midnight blue perhaps?

Bink · 17/12/2007 21:54

(Black cardie is in case of being cold, obviously. Not that I think anything needs covering up or anything. Ballet-style wrapover cardie especially.)

krabbiepatty · 17/12/2007 21:55

You could be right about black, Bink. I like black with gold and I think some sort of ballet shoe would work with the er dressing-up theme. She will certainly need a cardie. Or perhaps I should go whole hog and stick some wings on the back then it won't look like I thought it wasn't a dressing-up dress...

oh, she'll look adorable. i think black is deffo the way to go. h&m have black tights i think. you could do footless ones...

krabbiepatty · 17/12/2007 22:00

It really really isn't that foul yellow colour. In real life, it is a toffeeish old gold - the top is almost beige with glints. (or possibly I am colourblind as well as myopic...)I quite like the wrapover cardie idea - touching on a toddler with no waist at all. I am sure she would love those "sparkullee" shoes to bits but am ashamed to buy anything else sparkly...

middle shoes here

am sure have seen white tights with gold stars - will rummage

krabbiepatty · 17/12/2007 22:04

Ah Califrau, the hair must still be fab, no? I think black may be the answer - it not really yellow at all, really. Will check out the H + M, HC, thanks. Quite good Charlie / Lola goods at that shop..

OP posts:
Bink · 17/12/2007 22:06

Well maybe actually possibly not completely black (am swayed by the "bumblebee" comment!) - I think with a toffeeish vibe I might go for dark choc brown tights, if you can find them.

H&M is v good for wide range of colours. Chocolate wrapover cardie you'd get masses of use out of, if you can find one ... do you have access to Tartine et Chocolat? Bet they'd have one

krabbiepatty · 17/12/2007 22:06

Oh but she would love those shoes, MrsB. I suppose if you can't wear a gold dress with gold shoes at 20 months when can you wear them? Would you still go black cardie though?

OP posts:
krabbiepatty · 17/12/2007 22:08

I could get to Tartine et Chocolat in theory (am thinking it's off in West London somewhere, haven't been for years)...

krabbiepatty · 17/12/2007 22:09

And brown is great with the hair colour.

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 17/12/2007 22:11

brown cardi useful later, much more flattering to auburnites than black
brown tights also possible

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 17/12/2007 22:11

is it just me? I immediately thought 'humvee, rapper, gold chain'

sorry! I think she sounds gorgeous.
I too was a stout party with auburn curls, and only the age (and the curls, with the aid of a hairdryer) has changed

Wine might do? ballet shoes essential I think

krabbiepatty · 17/12/2007 22:13

Am very much leaning to brown. She is a great wearer of brown...

OP posts:
krabbiepatty · 17/12/2007 22:17

Yes, I think the ballet theme takes the bling out of it... I think all you other auburn-haired lovelies should wear gold for Christmas. You will all be ravishing.
