Are expensive hairdryers worth it?

I think the Dyson is out of my budget right now, but is it worth spending £100 on a hairdryer, as opposed to £30? I think my current one was about £30, it's lasted about two years, and the nozzle is melting. On the other hand, bought GHD straighteners in 2008, had the same budget dilemma then, but nearly 14 years later, they're still going strong. Is it worth it in the same way for hairdryers?

Any recommendations, cheap or expensive are welcome. My hair is quite frizzy, so if you know of anything that might be particularly good for frizz, let me know.

Thanks!

The best hairdryer I have ever bought is the Revlon One Step

It cost me about £40

PanettoneSeason · 02/12/2021 10:18

@Maizzee I bought the GHD hairdryer 2 years ago on a fab Black Friday deal and it’s still going perfectly. I have hair to the middle of my back and wash my hair daily so it sees a LOT of use. Never had more than 1 year out of a hairdryer before 😊

Deal is back on this year too!

Having just seen how flat my hair is after drying it with my mum's generic hairdryer compared to my Parlux I would say yes for sure!

I bought a GHD one last year and it’s the best hairdryer I’ve ever used - definitely worth paying extra for IMO. It’s faster but leaves my hair feeling sleeker - I’m a total convert. (The Dyson on the other hand was useless for my hair - which is the “long and fine, but there’s loads of it” variety)

WhatDidISayAlan · 02/12/2021 13:02

Parlux - all day long. I’ve had mine for going on 14 years.

Fandangoes · 02/12/2021 13:04

another vote for Parlux - I also have 'long, fine and loads of it' hair, that seems to retain water and takes ages to dry with a rubbish hairdryer so a good hairdryer transforms my mornings

Ilikewinter · 02/12/2021 13:08

Well ive just sent my Dyson back, totally gutted!.
I have shoulder length fine hair and it just made it a fuzzy, knotted mess.
Have gone back to my £30 Babyliss 😫

MauveMavis · 02/12/2021 13:10

I’ve got a parlux. It’s so much better than the £30 from boots one it replaced.

I love my Revlon One Step but as far as lasting value for money goes the best has been my Pifco stand hairdryer that I inherited from my DM that is 50+ years old & still going strong. Grin . They don’t make things like that anymore.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 02/12/2021 15:07

We’ve got a Parlux that’s used at least twice a day and is about 10 years old. We’ve replaced a bit of the cord and a switch but it’s still going strong - I like that we can fix it!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 02/12/2021 15:11

Parlux is definitely worth it . Great dryer and just goes on and on and on …..

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 02/12/2021 15:17

Another vote for Parlux here. Hairdresser recommended it. DD and I both had ours for over 10 years. I think they were £80.

BobbieT1999 · 02/12/2021 15:22

The extra £ for the ghd hairdryer was totally worth it for me, I have curly frizzy hair and it made a not difference to the frizz for me!
Use much less product - and often none - now to get a smooth finish.

LizziesTwin · 02/12/2021 15:24

I was given my Parlux for Christmas 2001, it’s still going strong.

Enko · 02/12/2021 15:25

I love my Dyson and I woild get another one if it broke its years old now

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 02/12/2021 15:25

I have a Parlux and a Dyson and they are both worth it. I prefer the Dyson but don't think it's worth the price difference. I have super thick wavy hair and it dries In no time.

Threebecomesfour · 02/12/2021 15:27

Another GHD happy customer. Mine has lasted 6 years so far and still working perfectly!

Maizzee · 02/12/2021 16:50

Looks like Parlux are very popular! I'd seen a ghd one I quite liked the look of too. Quick drying is also useful, and good to hear some have used them lots. In our house, it'll be me nearly every day, with my daughter a few times a week,so fairly heavy use.

Thanks all!

I have a ghd one, I was cynical but it's bloody amazing. I bought it on asos iirc and used a discount code so was pricey but not toooo bad. I have really thick hair and it used to be a nightmare to dry, takes half the time now and looks a lot better too.
