CoffeeCupz · 02/12/2021 06:34

I'm nearly 28 and seeing few fine lines on my forehead and needing to up my skincare game 😂 I'm dry dull skin not very acne prone, or sensitive.

I'm seeing elemis come up alot as a good luxury brand and the likes of Clarins on YouTube with Caroline higgins... IV no children and so I don't mind spending quite a bit of my paycheck in January on it all. Just wondering on others experience/ advice.

Wanting to get eye cream, night cream the works 😅
Thank you!!

I'm early 30s but apparently look young (lady in M&S said she would have ID'd me if it weren't for my older children being with me the other day, I was well happy with that 😂) and I use Elemis products.

Pro-collagen marine cream is lovely and light but makes my skin feel really soft and smooth. I don't have many fine lines but it definitely makes me look better.

It's also often on offer on QVC- the set I will link was recently a TSV but is still at a really good price and would be a nice way to try the range. No eye cream but think they have a set separately for this on offer too, and the body products are lovely too

Do some research, but I’d say generally skin care can only do the basics eg plump your skin w moisture. It might reduce lines slightly, but that’s it. If it’s really bothering you, you’d be better spending your money on proper non invasive treatments.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 02/12/2021 07:06

Neither. Decleor.

Geamhradh · 02/12/2021 08:07

If you're serious about upping your skincare game, then you should research various brands products containing:
Vit C
Retinol.
Peptides
All the beautifully boxed big brands (and I'm a huge Clarins fan) are going to smell nice, and hydrate nicely. They are not going to do much more unless they contain the above.

Nadine Baggott videos are brilliant- she maintains we need 5 basic steps:
Cleanser- ANY cleanser, at ANY price that we like- it goes down the sink after 20 seconds, no need to spend a lot. Remove with a hot cloth, and you've exfoliated at the same time.
Hydration- she raves about Hyaluronic acid. My jury is out on it as making that much difference. It's in virtually every moisturizer in production or you can use a separate serum.
Vit C- in the morning. Now we get onto the stuff that will make a difference. Resurfacing, glow, and anti-oxident protection. L-Ascorbic Acid is the best form of vit C in skincare, and you're looking for 15%+ of active ingredient. Creams that say they're vit C creams very probably have very low levels. Needs to be one of the first ingredients and at that kind of percentage.
Sunscreen spf50. Separate from both moisturizer and make up.
Retinol- evening. Build up. You can get entry grade from The Ordinary/Inkey List for the price of a pint. Do your research, especially with labelling. Retinoid is not as strong as retinol. A serum can say it's 5% but may need to be divided by 10 to get the active percentage.

That's all NB considers essential. You can add serums for specific concerns or an acid toner (acid toners gave replaced those horrific scrubby things we used to rip our skin off with) Salicylic (BHA) for oily, glycolic (AHA) for dry.

I’d echo everything that @Geamhradh said above. Brands like Elemis are nice to use for the sensory experience but they do very little beyond that. If you are starting to think about a proper skincare regime for fine lines/anti-aging then you need to focus on active ingredients. Vitamin A (retinol/Tretinoin) and a really good SPF (even in the winter) are the only products that have been proven to slow down ageing. After months of not using Vitamin C I’ve tried a new one and I can see the difference in my skin already.

One thing I would say if you start using actives is try one product at a time and let your skin get used to it before adding in another product.

I really recommend Beauty Pie for fabulous high end products, without ridiculous mark ups. I’ve really got into skincare since I discovered them, and really enjoy my little skin care rituals!
Here’s a code in case you’d like to try it

Yep I agree about the vit c and retinol.

Your best bet is to sign up to Dermatica or skin and me - it's about £20 a month for a personalised serum, it will have retinol in it ( if you request anti aging benefits ) and then buy some Aldi skin care products to use alongside.

I can't rate them enough - the la cura creams and serums are amazing as are their toners ( if you can get them ) skin care is only topical anyway so retinol is your way forward and you are starting at the right age.

JinglingHellsBells · 02/12/2021 12:27

Neither.

To be blunt if you are getting forehead lines at 28 it sounds like expression lines (do you raise your eyebrows a lot?) or sun damage ( talking low level everyday UV light.)

I'm in my 60s and have hardly any forehead lines at all as I've used sunblock since my 30s, every single day.

Those expensive creams do nothing.
You are paying for the packaging, the label, the hype around them.

There are no products out there that will turn around time other than retinol and at 28 you shouldn't need it. Sorry to be blunt!

You need to use spf 50 daily.
A very simple cleanser
A moisturiser that stops water loss from your skin (that's all they do.)

Also look at your diet.
Alcohol and sugar (including refined carbs) cause inflammation at deep levels in the skin which destroys collagen.

'Pro- collagen' (Elemis) is nothing but a marketing term. There is no way that a cream on the face can promote/ build collagen. Scientifically it is impossible.

Save your money for sun block, good sunglasses, so you don't squint and get number 11s, and nutritious food.

CoffeeCupz · 02/12/2021 13:55

Thank you all the replies, yes I think they are expression lines only very faint up close on my forehead, I look young for my age I'm told and still ID in shops 😂 I just want to make sure I get on top my skin care, thank you for all the replies will not waste my money and look into a good vitamin c/ retinol/ moisturiser

and sun block! It's the best thing you can do. all skin ageing is down to UV rays

Sop1514 · 29/01/2022 20:51

@Geamhradh would you be able to recommend any products with these things? I’m so confused between everything. I currently use dermalogica and no idea if it’s good or bad for anti ageing. Someone also gifted me with beauty pie products.

Is the vitamin c meant to be in a day moisturiser?

In terms of the sunscreen, the moisturiser i use (from dermalogica) is spf 50 but were you saying it needs to be a separate sunblock that you put on top of a moisturiser?

Hi there I am 52 & just wondering 🤔 about anti aging, anti wrinkle products etc & wondering whetherto try.....Beauty Pie or Elemis. I used to use Clarens before I had my children and to be honest I have recently bought Aldi products have just got the caviar cream and it feels luxurious....lol.
Anyway I just watched a Holly Willoughby video and she was using Beauty Pie & Holly has gorgeous skin. I went onto Google to compare Elemis and Beauty Pie and found myself on here so hi 👋 there & can anyone shed more light please 🙏 on the above or should I go back to Clarens Skincare? Xxx

BansheeofInisherin · 07/06/2023 10:24

None of those expensive creams work. The only thing that works for anti-aging -and is proven to- is prescription grade Tretinoin. I am 51 and have zero forehead wrinkles.

Madamecastafiore · 07/06/2023 10:33

Murad is good too.

Fancyateapottea · 07/06/2023 12:41

I’ve found it takes a lot of trial and error to find the products that work best for your skin and they probably won’t be from the same brand. I use tretinoin from skin & me, Paula’s choice BHA when I need to exfoliate, an oil cleanser (DHC or Elemis are my favourites) and then a moisturiser and sometimes a facial oil too. I’ve very recently tried Elemis pro-collagen day and night cream and they are brilliant (if you can get them on offer). My skin has never felt as soft as it does after the night cream and the day cream is so light and absorbs in seconds. I also find if I use nicer products that feel nicer and smell good I’m more likely to stick to my routine.
