Can you put cashmere in the washing machine?

I've always washed merino wool in the machine with no problem and want to buy a cashmere jumper. Are they a faff to wash and dry?

I can pinpoint the day my life turned for the worse.

I’d just got home from being away in a hotel for work for a week. Hot and sweaty, I stripped off and shoved it all in the machine at 60.

Cashmere dress and brand new red coat. 🤦‍♀️

That’s my “sliding doors” moment.

wool wash on my machine (miele) doesn't turn the drum, just sort of jiggles it left to right for a very short time and then leaves it to sit in the water until draining.

I wash all my wool and cashmere on the wool setting at 30 and never had a problem. I’ve got pieces that are 5 years plus old and work constantly during the winter. Love cashmere, nothing can beat it for warmth and softness.

I wash all my cashmere in the machine (Miele) on a wool setting. I agree that knitwear shouldn’t be washed too often & it’s better to let it air naturally than constantly washing. My cashmere is from Uniqlo, Boden & Bella Freud. I was particularly worried about washing the Bella Freud knit as v expensive & a gift but I took the advice from a company called Nearly New Cashmere who say that all cashmere can be machine washed as long as you have a good machine with reliable temp control, which is also one of the key arguments against hand washing - ie you can’t be absolutely certain that you have the correct temperature. Use cashmere shampoo with a wool cycle with a fast spin (1200) & dry flat. Honestly it came out looking brand new. No faffing with handwashing & wringing with towels or costly (& crap for the environment) dry cleaning.
