Indoor coat thing

What do I need?

My house (in which I'm now spending lots of time) has warmer bits (like where my office desk is) and colder bits. It's not worth heating the colder bits to match the warmer bits, at least not for the whole day. I own a couple of hoodies from my student days which get chucked over whatever I'm wearing as a sort of indoor coat thing when I go to make lunch or whatever. They are falling apart and I don't know what to replace them with.

I don't want a blanket because I want to move around. I don't want a dressing gown because that doesn't feel dressed. I've got a chunky cardi over the back of my chair in my office office, but I don't think that's going to be warm enough round my neck. Do I just need to embrace the fact that my hoodies work and buy some? Are there such things as nice hoodies?

I’d get an Oodie but you might feel like it’s a bit dressing gowny. You’ll never go back though!

I suppose more stylish would be a cashmere cardigan if budget allows.

I'd go either a shacket or a scarf with your cardigan

I have this coatigan to address exactly this problem.

I'd never heard of a shacket. Now I have! That could work.

Not keen on the idea of having yet another thing to put on with a scarf, and it seems like admitting that my kitchen is really rather cold if I'm having to put a scarf on to venture there Grin.

I can't see myself making and eating lunch in an Oodie tbh. To much dragging sleeves through food. I've got a slanket (which is fab for the sofa) but I think is similar ish, if a bit less portable.

Wondering if a woollen poncho might work. That'd pull on quickly and be more presentable than a dressing gown if I do end up on a video call!

Ooo that coatigan is nice. Not dissimilar to the one in my office, but that one is a wrap style hence the cold neck thing.

Not exactly what you’re after, but I have a grey boyfriend cardi in alpaca wool from Arket that is just perfect as an extra layer. I got mine on Depop but they have the same one in stock.

I also picked up a grey cashmere snood in the JL sale a few years ago which is the BEST for working from home. I am actually at the kitchen table in an old property with high ceilings, and even with heating on it is chilly if you’re sitting for a long time.

I can recommend this as a throw over wear around the house item - I have the dark grey and denim blue versions
Just ordered another as a present for DD

I just bought 2 for £89 - great bargain in Black Friday sale 😊

Lands End have some reasonably smart fleece blazers. I have one which is very warm - warmer than my technical fleece for hill-walking!

Dilbertian · 28/11/2021 23:36

The point about a blazer being that you can turn the collar up to keep your neck warm.
