Chest & back acne - 14 YO DD

14 YO DD is lucky that she has no spots on her face, not yet anyway, but her chest and back are covered, especially her back. We have used acnecide with some success, but it ruins clothes, inc dressing gown, pyjamas, sheets, pillow covers, etc.
Is there anything you'd recommend, for example I have retirides 0.05%. Would this work for her? She has very white skin so would need to use sunscreen but to be honest she covers up her skin as much as she can in summer, she's that embarrased.

DD is in Lymecycline from the GP. It has improved things somewhat.

My teens and twenties were blighted by chest acne, now I have clearer skin but a maze of silver scars all over. Best to get to the GP. If you read up on the NICE guidelines it can help you see what they might try, usually a number of topical lotions/creams/antibiotics and oral medications.

Some contraceptives can help, some may make it worse. For SPF you want to find something she can wear on her face everyday without it being greasy or blocking pores, try Biore Watery Essence. Some of the medication may make her sun sensitive.

She needs a drs appointment asap.

You must take her to the doctor. My middle one is on Lymecycline. It took about 6 weeks initially (he started when he was 13) but his skin is so much better. He’ll be on that for a few years but it has done wonders for his confidence.

My DB was never taken to the doctor, looking back I’m so upset at my family for ignoring it and him. Over the counter products do not work when it’s excessive teenage hormones. DS uses LanRoche Posay ‘Effaclar’ cleanser and toner from boots twice a day and a rose water spray as he doesn’t like moisturiser. You need something with salicylic acid. I make sure diet is full of fruit and veg, they eat dairy (Greek yoghurt and cheese) but not a lot of actual milk.

My other two DC only need to use a decent cleansing routine but severe acne needs more action.

Drs really but if you want to try some otc stuff while waiting for appts etc maybe the la roche posay effaclar body wash and spray or mine likes cosrx aha bha toner which is cheap enough to use on face and body. Worth a try but I’d take mine to the dr personally.
