Make up gift help

I'm hoping the beauty experts on here can help me choose a gift for my sister as I feel a bit clueless!

She is 46 and doesn't wear makeup much. She has asked for make up for Christmas and has put a link to some glow/radiance product on her amazon Wishlist.

But in my experience (4 yrs older that her) those sorts of products are better for younger skin and on my they just look shiny and emphasise wrinkles.

Obviously I don't know her exact skin tone which makes things tricky. She is quite fair with olive rather than pink tonnes I'd say.

So is there any great product for mature skin that isn't too colour specific that would be do the trick? Maybe a BB cream? A primer with some colour? Something to even out skin tone and improve appearance of fine lines, brighten a bit. Oh and she suffers from under eye shadows

Sorry if this is an impossible ask. Any advice welcome. Budget up to £50 but would prefer to get a couple of items for that.

Thanks so much in advance

Complete makeup junkie here, and I am in my 40s.

By Terry do wonderful glow products for mature skin. If you're quick there are some great Black Friday deals still on.

I really rate the By Terry CC serum, it just gives your skin a lovely soft natural radiance - you can use it under makeup or alone. If you don't want to splurge on the full size, there is a cute set here which has a mini size plus a mini cream eyeshadow (which I have as a full size and is also lovely).

If you're after something that's more like a cheek highlighter, then the Chantecaille liquid lumiere anti aging highlighter is also wonderful.

Ooh that looks great! Does it have a lot of pigment? Not sure whether to chose the rose or apricot shade

Thank you!

No, it's not especially pigmented so you can't go too wrong. Less so than say, a tinted moisturiser. It's more like a radiant primer you can use all over to leave you looking glowy, rather than a spot highlighter for the cheekbones etc if that makes sense.

If she is fair skinned and/or cool toned i would probably go for the rose. I am a light to medium skintone and have the Apricot. I have tried the Sunny Flash shade before, on me it just gives me a hint of tan which is nice in summer. If you google then there are plenty of swatches around of the different shades.

I’d be inclined to simply give her a voucher for somewhere like Cult Beauty - then she could have hours of fun reading reviews and making her own choices.

Even better (in non-covid tones) would have been an hour’s individual make up lesson at Selfridges, with the cost of products set against the initial fee.

This.

If she's asked specifically for a certain product I wouldn't go out of my to get her a different one, but a voucher is fair. You could mention some products you've tried and leave it up to her.

My older sister has often given me gifts of skincare and makeup that she likes, and while it's nice of her, they don't suit my skin at all. I've been gently encouraging her to give me vouchers instead!

(And of course, if she might have difficulty navigating the website alone, you could offer your time to help her as part of the gift.)

Thanks for these responses. I suspect she might not get round to using a voucher but I hear what you are saying.

Maybe look for brands that are aimed at her age range? I would say Charlotte tilbury and trinny London would be good to start, maybe boots no7? I like the glossier halo scope highlighter for adding glow without looking like a line of glitter!!

Boots No7 have some good gift sets for Christmas, you could get the No7 advent calendar

Bare Minerals
Im not a make-up wearer and I really CBA trying to fathom my way through their 101 shades to find mine , but the Mineral Veil is very neiutral . There's a pinkier shade one too ( though some reviews said its it bit shimmery )

You need to tap swirl and buff method (tiny bit in the lid , swirl the brush into the lid and buff it on for the time it takes to sing Happy Birthday twice )

I'd add a couple of nice brushes to your present if you can , loads of Real Technique bargains around .

Great suggestions, thank you make up experts. Might have to buy something for myself too!
