Do you tip your hairdresser?

I have never understood the whole tipping etiquette here. I have just found a new hairdresser who was fab and now wonder should I have left a tip? Who out there tips their hairdresser, is it the norm?

Calm down old girl it's not good to be so excited/stressed so near to Christmas and its Sunday.

I do tip (but tbh honest i resent it - still do it though).

I am always a-fluster at the tipping-point though, do you tip the stylist AND colourist?, just the stylist? what about the girl who washes and massages?

Because I dont know, my nerves take over and I think I over-tip - 20 on top of a 120 bill.

Whats the ettiquette?

Well, quite clearly you care....

DingDongJeremyOnVile · 16/12/2007 14:53

...and checking archives is boring.

This is a very informative thread so thank you for starting it. This question has bugged me for 3 days so my mind is now at rest

Is there a suggestion I am fibbing?

beanstalk · 16/12/2007 17:56

Ooh sorry Cod, I admit to being very lazy and not checking the archives
Really appreciate everyone's replies by the way, but hope it's not at the expense of Cod's blood pressure

FWIW I dont tip as cost a lot already but did last week as Xmas

callmeoverchristmas · 16/12/2007 19:39

The subject of tipping always causes a row when I go out with a group of friends. Some like to tip, others feel they have to others don't want to because their order was wrong etc. etc.

So the answer to your OP is do what you feel is right. Did they do a good job, is it value for money and do they make you feel valued? If you say yes to those things then tip what you think they deserve bearing in mind what you can afford.
