Best fabrics for staying warm but dry

Since having children and breastfeeding my hormones have never settled and I have been sweatier. I now really recognise the importance of wearing better quality fabric.

So please can you advise what do you find helps you stay warm not damp or clammy? Do you tend to layer? Thank you.

Natural fibres, thin layers, linen and cashmere x

Merino wool, cashmere, lambswool are all good for layering for warmth.

Silk. Silk thermals are the dog's bollocks - keep you warm without overheating. I get them from Land's End. Not cheap but they wash brilliantly and last for years.

Avoid synthetics. Cotton, modal, wool, bamboo, are all good. Merino is light but warm, less itchy than lambswool and cheaper than cashmere. Layering is the way to go. Cotton, modal, bamboo next to your skin, if your skin is sensitive.

Perimenopausal and quite active here, so my temperature fluctuates too. I often layer a long-sleeved tee under a merino jumper this time of year. Then I can take the jumper on and off as required. I also find I start off outside bundled up and end up walking along with my coat undone, taking off hat, scarves and gloves as necessary.

Agree with wool, but not sure I agree about cotton and bamboo. In my experience they absorb moisture very easily and take forever to dry!
