A friend used to wear shell suits. I thought they looked hideous.

Bodies. Especially when you forgot to do them up after going to the loo and realised hours later that you had a weird tail flapping out of your trousers.

BobbieT1999 · 24/11/2021 23:45

Cold shoulder tops and platform shoes.

Animal prints.

Mosaic123 · 24/11/2021 23:49

Knickerbockers. Trousers that had a cuff a little below your knee.

Mid 1970s I think? What on earth did I look like!

Ronacorona · 24/11/2021 23:49

Tunic tops with little pockets at the front, often worn Witt black leggings. Just not a good style.

MajorNeville · 25/11/2021 00:19

Baggy sleeves, loads of material flapping around every time you move.

3/4 sleeves, make the cuffs touch my wrist or make them short.

Cold shoulder tops, just awful.

StarlightLady · 25/11/2021 07:05

Sadly for me, it is not “disliked”, it is “dislike” as in present tense.

Anything, that’s skirts, trousers, jeans, leggings, with a so called high waist. I say so called high waist, because my waist is not an inch or so under my bra.

WeAreTheHeroes · 25/11/2021 07:11

Knickerbockers were early 80s. Like pie crust blouses and other Princess Di inspired fashions.

Cheerbear24 · 25/11/2021 07:23

Yes flappy, flared sleeves are annoying and they let your arms get cold as a fraught gets up them!

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 25/11/2021 07:27

Have to agree with 3/4 length sleeves. They are awful. There's an uncomfortable feeling of tightness when you bend your elbows and they just look as if there wasn't enough fabric to make the sleeves full length.

A year ago, I would have said bootcut jeans. I thought I'd never be seen dead in them again. But, fancying a bit of variety, I bought a pair and spent all summer in them with trainers and they felt so comfortable. Weirdly enough, I'm not wearing my bootcuts with, erm, boots😀

foodiscomplicated · 25/11/2021 07:33

Bodies. Maybe they've come on since first appearing in the 80's but they make me shudder. I have a long body mind and they were wedgie hell.

Ditto cold shoulders, flares with slits, ripped jeans. That early noughties 'fashion' for showing the top of your thong under your jeans.

BubbleCoffee · 25/11/2021 08:00

Crop t-shirts, especially combined with low-rise jeans. I no longer have the waist of yesteryear and would prefer not to have a 6 inch gap between t-shirt and jeans.

Cold shoulder tops

Bardot tops

Short sleeved cardigans

Animal print - I know it's more mainstream these days but it still looks tacky

Court shoes, ballet pumps etc which never stay on

Edge-to-edge cardigans

Waterfall cardigans

Men first:
I dont like sloppy jeans and tshirts on men. It's low effort and i get the allure of that, but it makes most of them look like a flump.
Or a man-frump.
It's just a different t-shirt each day, plain or with a bland design on it. The summer version of this usually involves swapping the jeans for shapeless knee shorts.
Not terribly fond of the full suited up look either, but some effort or thought going into it would be interesting to see.

I also dont like tracksuits, black especially. With baseball caps and trainers. And black sloppy hoodies. I often see large groups of boys/men together all wearing exactly the same black outfit. It is basically sport related clothing, shapeless joggers and often north face.

Women:
I've never liked pencil skirts or dungarees.
I didnt like 80's mainstream fashions much either - the power suit and mad shoulder pads. There was a thing with white slouchy ankle boots and leg warmers, sort of early Madonna era, I was too young to wear that stuff but didnt like it.
Fit and flare, it is flattering but always bored me.

And finally that awful contemporary 'knitwear' in the high street stores that hangs creased and looks like the sponge texture on a washing-up scourer. I dont know what type of material they are using (it isnt the typical acrylic) but it feels like fuzzy felts to touch.

Comedycook · 25/11/2021 09:58

Hated the grunge look in the nineties.

Today....I cannot dungarees.on adults. Also hate cold shoulder tops...why?!

Comedycook · 25/11/2021 09:58

*cannot stand

DPotter · 25/11/2021 09:58

Totally agree about cold shoulder tops

maybe not good style - but so practical !

Pheasantlysurprised · 25/11/2021 10:22

Just to add, i checked on the H&M website to find out what material goes into those spongey textured jumpers. It appears to be a mix of polyamide, acrylic and elastane. Perhaps the added 'stretch' is creating the weird texture, but it is something i never used to see in knitwear until a few yrs back. And now it is everywhere.

I honestly preferred 100% acrylic to this, it actually hung better, didn't look like sponge and didn't crease.

mewkins · 25/11/2021 10:28

@WeAreTheHeroes

Any cold shoulder top/dress/jumpsuit. Just awful and remind me of Liz Macdonald on Corrie from about 25 years ago.
Agree
TeaAddict235 · 25/11/2021 10:29

@FissionMailed

Herman Munster boots. They seem to be a bit popular ATM. Lots of women on the school run looking like 9 irons.
Dear Lord, they are heinous aren't they??
FissionMailed · 25/11/2021 10:45

@TeaAddict235

Yep, especially when worn with very fitted top and leggings.

Furry slippers worn as outdoor footwear. Still see it occasionally, just why ? They aren't even comfortable all over slippers, but those backless ones that you fall out of.
