Help! Face Bright red after cold snap

cherrypiepie · 24/11/2021 19:32

Since the cold snap on Monday, face around nose, mouth and chin area is red and very sore.

Can anyone explain why this happens in the cold? I've had it before when I've been in Russia and -23 but it wasn't that cold (maybe 5 degrees)

How it can be prevented and what I can to do make or better. It's so painful.

My skin is dry normally but use moisturiser and it's fine usually.

I think it's called windburn x

cherrypiepie · 24/11/2021 21:12

It's not windburn.

Is it roseacea? I get a bit of a flare in cold weather. It’s redness, with bumps and a few spots. It’s a type of acne.

HundredMilesAnHour · 24/11/2021 21:23

Sounds like chapping

Kjr33 · 24/11/2021 21:25

Do you just need a thicker or more nourishing moisturiser? Try one with ceramides in maybe?

cherrypiepie · 24/11/2021 21:37

@Cheerbear24 I thought rosacea but Unsure as it around my chin and mouth rather than the butterfly rash.

It feel like and allergy it's stingy burning and anything I put on it is painful.

I think you might me right @HundredMilesAnHour to describe ir as chapped and I wish I had realised that before. Thank you. Now how to solve it!

Will look at ceremides.

I've had this before, basically it was a compromised skin barrier in my case. As soon as the weather changed (or if I got super stressed), my nose/mouth area would go red and flaky and be very sensitive.

I was using face oils at night which weren't moisturising enough, even though you'd think they'd be! I needed to add more hydration plus an occlusive type cream on top.

Once I started using a cream with ceramides like a PP said and layering with hydrating toners, it went away.

Re products, the Dr Jart ceramidin range really worked for me, also Ren overnight balm if you're after specific recs. Both have Black Friday discounts now. Or if you Google "compromised skin barrier ", am sure you'll get lots of product recs.

@lovehatesummer that is perfect info thank you.

The beauty Therapiat years ago said 'impaired skin barrier' but had no idea how to solve it! Thank you off to Google!

I hope you figure it out!

Honestly fixing my skin barrier was the best thing ever for my face. My breakouts and blackheads pretty much disappeared, in addition to the really sensitive skin flare ups.
