Kerastase - what am I doing wrong?

My once shiny, manageable, 'fine but lots of it' hair has succumbed to the perimenopause and is now increasingly dry, bit frizzy round the temples and greying.

I decided to invest in "proper" haircare to try and improve things and after reading 50 million threads bought some Kerastase - the bain stuff for normal to dry hair.

One week in and my hair is now a lank, static-filled flyaway mess. Even as I'm blow drying it it's sticking to my face. It feels very soft but totally unmanageable and not particularly shiny.

Have I bought the wrong flavour? Am I using too much of it (we have hard water so I usually have to use a fair bit), do I need to stick with it? Or have I just fallen for marketing hype?

Any advice or alternative suggestions would be much appreciated!

Be careful what you blame on meno, i have done that in the past with weight gain (which fell off after lockdown) and my hair alike.

Moved further north to softer water and the frizz dropped by 70% overnight.
It DOES make a difference, so if you have hard water you might find this is most of the issue explained.

I already have fuzzy, porous hair which is fine, too. When i wash with the shower head it dries like wire wool.

I bought a Britta (!) water filter, and whilst it is a faff, i pour several batchloads into a bowl and wash it in the sink now! It is considerably softer and less frizzy but not perfect. I dont want to move further north again either though! Grin
Using the filtered water has also helped to stop my highlights fading.

I often use Kerastase, and it's ok, but not particularly better for my hair than Pantene to be honest. I just use a deep conditioner on occasion but that's it. They're good, but hair is so, so personal that products work differently on every head. Nobody can advise which would work for you, it is trial and error sadly.

Have you got the shampoo and the conditioner?

Oh and your hair sounds like mine, i was always advised to use the green range from kerastase. I think it is called 'resistance'.
The orange coloured range (forgot it's name) was too heavy for my fine hair. There is a conditioner called masqueintense i think, which is good, but being from the orange range it can weight fine hair down.

My hair has been similar, but I've seen some improvement over last few months with the following things:
Tie hair up in a loose bun with a scrunchie and wear a silk hat at night; this stops the hair breaking.
Only shampoo the scalp.
Only condition the ends.

Thanks all, that's really helpful. @Pheasantlysurprised I totally agree re hard water, my hair is always sooo much better when we're away somewhere not built on limestone. Seriously considering having a mains water filter fitted, it would save all the kitchen appliances as well as my hair! I don't think that's caused the sudden change though, I think the kerastase is probably just the wrong sort for my hair.
@Festivemayo yep I've got both, the matching pair
@ichundich good call re silk, have been debating a silk pillowcase for my face, hadn't occured to me it might benefit my hair too. I'll try that, thanks.
