Hair dye advice

Have dyed my hair lighter for donkeys years. Loads of highlights done by various hairdressers. Am fed up of it now and cant ever get or keep the colour that i want so am thinking of going to my natural colour. Is a long time since i saw it, but the roots so far look brown with some grey ( in my fifties.) .

Can i put a semi permanent brown on it until enough of my natural colour is through, then stop dying it? ( cut out the blond when long as enough).
Any other suggestions? Is already short and dont want to cut it even more.
Thanks.

It depends on how light the old highlights are and how dark your natural colour is. Usually you would have to restore the underlying pigment back in your hair. So in your case you may have to put a light red/copper colour on the existing blonde then you can put a darker colour over the top. Otherwise the brown can turn muddy/green on the previous blonde! I'd personally recommend getting a professional to do it to begin with and you can always keep up with the semi permanent colour yourself until it grows out x

Thanks for advice @ crackers, the my hair is very light so that seems like good advice. You are right about getting it done professionally and i have always done this but am so fed up with the ones i have been too lately and have spent a fortune - to end up not happy with the result. Not ready to tackle this again yet. Maybe look like a skunk until i can face it Grin
