Favourite spf50 moisturiser?

didireallysaythat · 23/11/2021 08:08

Before I reorder La Roche-Posay Anthelios moisturiser

www.lookfantastic.com/la-roche-posay-anthelios-age-correct-spf50-sun-cream-50ml/12781512.html

I was wondering if there are any other recommendations for a day cream with spf50?

I don't think spf in a moisturiser is a good idea as you don't get enough spf from the amount you need as a moisturiser (if that makes sense.)

I use a separate one- it's E Lauder Perfectionist UV protection- small grey bottle. It's a mineral based SPF as chemical ones can be harmful. It's £36 but lasts ages and at a push you could leave a moisturiser off as it's also a skincare product. estee lauder

How are chemical ones harmful? I don’t buy that at all. Chemical sunscreens are sold and tested all over the world they are not harmful. You can prefer mineral if you want.

CMOTDibbler · 23/11/2021 09:00

The only moisturiser that I think you get a decent amount of actual sun protection from (based on experimentation with my ridiculously sensitive skin) is Cetaphil daily defence spf50. Otherwise I have to put Sunsense tinted SPF on top

Wooky8 · 23/11/2021 09:09

Caroline Hirons recommends not trying to mix the two items, moisturiser and SPF. Buy separately. Anthelios is lovely and light, highly recommend as a daily SPF.

PamelaShipman80 · 23/11/2021 09:15

I love the Nivea factor 50 matt one! £6 and gives me a nice glow, I’d definitely recommend trying it before the pricier one!

mrssmiling · 23/11/2021 11:10

I used Anthelios in the summer, and have been using this Nivea one for a couple of weeks. Any advice welcome - should I just go back to using the Anthelios through the winter? My skin is fairly normal, but I really want to avoid sun damage….have fair skin and a few age spots.

JinglingHellsBells · 23/11/2021 16:53

@Kjr33 If you research this online, there are some concerns about certain types of chemicals which may cause skin cancer or may be absorbed into the body. Avobenzone is in a lot of them. www.draliabadi.com/womens-health-blog/potentially-bad-ingredients-in-sunscreen/ The FDA is carrying out more research. Obviously, people can make their own minds up but knowing about it is part of the choice.

You sound a bit snappy and no idea why Hmm I'm trying to help the OP.

Kjr33 · 23/11/2021 16:57

@JinglingHellsBells I dont do my own research as I am not a scientist but I follow labmuffin beauty who is and she says it’s fine. I just don’t like the statement that they are harmful when it’s not factual.

RestingMurderousFace · 23/11/2021 17:06

Can't go wrong with Anthelios to be honest.

didireallysaythat · 23/11/2021 18:44

@CMOTDibbler - thank you. I'll take a look as I'm not familiar with Cetaphil moisturisers

@Wooky8 - I was really impressed with the Anthelios suncream and in the summer I often just used this www.lookfantastic.com/la-roche-posay-anthelios-ultralight-invisible-fluid-spf50-sun-cream-50ml/12021438.html so when I found a matching moisturiser I thought "Great" as I'm really not into putting more than one or two things on my face at once (who has time?). But I accept that I probably don't put as much moisturiser on as I would suncream (but then again I haven't left the house today so putting on suncream would feel weird while moisturiser...)....

@PamelaShipman80 @mrssmiling do the nivea products have the "Nivea-smell" ? I know lots of people swear by the blue cream but the smell is just so overpowering for me.

Chemicals... yeah. I work in a lab. I used to worry about chemicals and metals entering my body. But I also like to have a packet of crisps with my gin and tonic, so I don't think I need to worry too much. I would like to stop my skin getting more age spots and wrinkles.

It is lightly perfumed, but not with that distinctive Nivea smell. I’ve enjoyed using it, but am thinking that I may go back to the Anthelios, which is quite moisturising anyway. My priority is preventing more ageing/sun damage, and using a tried and tested SPF seems the way. I can always slap on more moisturiser around the house!

Can anyone recommend any SPF which are non-greasy? I already have very oily skin and daily use of them just makes me break out in spots.

WhatHoMarjorie · 23/11/2021 19:17

Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily

I have tried soooo many SPFs.

Mcmcmcmc · 23/11/2021 19:20

Heliocare

mrssmiling · 23/11/2021 19:24

@Receptionclass This is the one I use - non-greasy, and it says suitable for oily skin.

Never heard of her but there are plenty of articles online from reputable sources, not simply the one I linked.

There is concern and I felt it was worth mentioning it.

If that isn't what you want to read, fair enough, but not sure why you seemed to be upset about it.

FlickyCrumble · 23/11/2021 20:03

Heliocare has a fab sheen to it as well good protection.

Sudename · 23/11/2021 20:08

Bioderma photoderm is lovely

Kjr33 · 23/11/2021 21:12

@Receptionclass etude house sunprise mild and airy finish is a really nice mineral spf that I find a bit drying on my combo skin, but it’s really nice and light and lovely I might try it again in summer. I have gifted it to a friends teen daughter who loves it she has oily skin.

Kranz78 · 23/11/2021 22:45

ultrasun antipigmentation factor 50, I've got sensitive skin, and it's been great

Kjr33 · 24/11/2021 10:44

@didireallysaythat my favourite spf is the isntree hyaloronic acid watery sun gel. It’s very moisturising I don’t need a moisturiser underneath it at all. I have combination skin if that helps. The only problem is availability and slow shipping from reputable sellers!

VitalsStable · 24/11/2021 11:04

Lancaster do an amazing one with a little bit of a shimmer in it so you can wear it on its own. Always moisturise first though. It does sting your eyes when you sweat too which I've found a problem with some of the cheaper ones. (I'm a runner not a hugely sweaty person)
