Can someone explain Pandora to me?

Every Christmas time, I see people in a long queue outside the Pandora shop. It's started again this year. What is the deal with Pandora? It looks like fairly bland mass-produced stuff to me, but it seems pricey for what it is. I'm fascinated to know what the attraction is?

A lot of people obviously like Pandora jewellery.

What else is there to say honestly?

You are being goady.

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/11/2021 19:25

I'm with you OP. It's baffling. And no, I don't think you're being goady. It's not an unreasonable question.

FestiveMayo · 21/11/2021 19:26

Once you have a charm bracelet then it's an easy gift idea for special occasions. So say you have a child, their dad can buy you a charm on their birthday.

expatmigrant · 21/11/2021 19:27

Not my thing either but each to their own.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 21/11/2021 19:28

It's not a goady post, it's a reasonable question. And I say that as a Pandora lover. I have no idea OP. I wish I could answer it (and then I'd know why I have so many charms on 3 bracelets) Grin. It is overpriced for what it is though, and thankfully I've curbed my ridiculous spending on it

thefirstmrsrochester · 21/11/2021 19:28

Not my cup of tea at all but the dc got me a charm bracelet a couple of years back and they do seem to put effort into picking a new charm for it each year.

PumpkinCrumble · 21/11/2021 19:28

It’s a range of silver and gold jewellery in different styles, with well placed high street shops.

A580Hojas · 21/11/2021 19:29

Of course it is goady.

People like Pandora same as they like Crocs, McDonalds, Starbucks, Irn-Bru, Butlins, Tenerife anything else you want to be a snob about.

People have different tastes. Simple.

This.

I’m not a fan but I don’t think it takes much ‘explaining’, does it?

AnyFucker · 21/11/2021 19:29

You sound like a snob, tbh

RubyTuesday70 · 21/11/2021 19:29

Our DD's loved it when they were teenagers, and we spent hundreds on bracelets and charms etc. They've not worn them for years.... waste of money.

According to them, it's all a bit chavvy.....................

MrsFoxyplease · 21/11/2021 19:30

I don't understand the pull to Pandora but always thought the queues were because certain charms are only available for a limited time or new items released near Christmas.
No idea really.

FlibbertyGiblets · 21/11/2021 19:31

Lots of people like them, it is a perfectly harmless bit of pretty, don't look down your nose at the plebs or be a crashing snob

FestiveMayo · 21/11/2021 19:31

I've never heard anyone say anything bad about them tbh

AntiCornLawLeague · 21/11/2021 19:31

I have one item from Pandora; dh bought me a charm from there. Not the bracelet, just a single charm Confused

Sorry, not the point of the thread, but it reminded me of this heartfelt gift. Buying my own presents from now on Grin

Gettingthereslowly2020 · 21/11/2021 19:32

I don't understand it either. It seems very overpriced and basic. I'm not being snobby, I quite liked Warren James which was much nicer and cheaper than Pandora.

lazylinguist · 21/11/2021 19:33

Asking why people like fashion items is pointless (and often goady). People have different taste and that's the end of it!

Goawayquickly · 21/11/2021 19:39

Brilliantly marketed pretty things. Designed to be collectable. Nice packaging, easy gifts that look special and appeal to lots of younger girls and women and to people that like nice things on a reasonable budget.
It's very well done advertising, good for them!

There's nothing wrong with Pandora, people like it, they buy it. I've only been in the shop twice but saw a couple of bits I quite liked. Generally not my cuppa but neither are many popular things.

IamGusFring · 21/11/2021 19:39

I don't have any Pandora but I did notice that they are introducing new styles similar to eg Thomas Sabo. The post is goady and is the same as asking

"Can someone explain Popsy dresses , leggings and dresses , DMs , eyebrows" etc 🙄

KaycePollard · 21/11/2021 19:40

No not being goady - I genuinely don't get it, but I'll admit it's not my world or my taste - as it seems so mass-produced to me, so I just don't get why people would queue for it when you can buy much the same stuff at other high street jewellers. It's the queuing that puzzles me.

Because you can actually buy much better stones (semi-precious) at shops that sell Indian-made jewellery or at jewellers that sell old /antique stuff. And often costing less. Maybe people feel more secure or safer purchasing from a chain than a local jeweller?

But I get the charm bracelet thing - my grandmother gave us all silver charm bracelets for out 9th birthdays and used to give us a charm every year, or for special achievements.

Come to think of it, I don't know anywhere that sells charms (in sterling silver) any more, so that explains one aspect of Pandora - thanks! Is the other attraction of it a kind of collecting fashion? (ie collect all the pieces of a set or something)

Stiffcondomhat · 21/11/2021 19:47

It's a genius business model and you're being well goady. You've just said it's not to your taste, there you go. Surely you can't be that surprised people like mass produced overpriced items? Boden and iPhones are pretty popular on here, to name but 2.

Sparkles512 · 21/11/2021 19:50

I like Pandora jewellery and all of my charms have a meaning behind them not just a generic we didn't know what to buy you charm.

Personally I would never queue at Christmas time for one but have some lovely charms that mean something to me

OhMyCrump · 21/11/2021 19:52

Its a newish take on a charm bracelet. I think that's it really.
The charms are threaded on like beads rather than dangling off like the charm bracelets of old.

Darkpheonix · 21/11/2021 19:54

What's 'not my world' mean.

I doubt Pandora is anyone's world. I ha e never got anything from there. But its not hard to see that some people do.

That's really all there is too it. You obviously don't like it. Some people aren't that fussed about having 'unique' jewellery. Plenty of people want something they like, and just dont care if other people also have it.

BluebellsGreenbells · 21/11/2021 19:55

You sound like a snob, tbh

OP didn’t sound snobby!! But you obvious have an opinion that Pandora is looked down on, otherwise you wouldn’t have made the connection.
