Stuart Weitzman 5050 boots.... yay or nay?

I'm tempted by these boots to wear in the autumn/winter with jumper dresses/short skirts and opaque tights, and possibly over skinnies, but I can't decide whether the neoprene panel at the back makes them a bit ageing/frumpy... What do people reckon? Are they over or do they still look reasonably current? I'm tallish with decent legs shame about the face if that makes a difference

I like them but I have fuck all fashion sense and horribly fat legs. But if I had good legs I’d wear them if that helps.

Bebabelouba · 23/11/2021 20:42

If I had the legs I would!

storkstalk · 23/11/2021 20:43

Not really a fan sorry. I think they’re a little dated

DGFB · 23/11/2021 20:43

Sorry they are too 10 years ago for me

IDontThinkSoNo · 23/11/2021 20:43

Not a fan I’m afraid

lindyloo57 · 23/11/2021 21:59

I like them, I have the clarks ones, they do them every year and always sell out.

Peppercorn9 · 24/11/2021 08:40

Thanks all! I’m still on the fence so am going to hold fire for now and maybe keep my eyes peeled for a second hand pair. They’re so expensive full price that I think I’d need to be 100% sure I wanted them!

My friend has a similar pair from Hobbs I think and they look fantastic on her. She wears it with mini skirts/dresses and has the legs for it too. She's a London trendy too if that helps. Can't go wrong with well fitted, classically styled boots.

stealingbeauty · 24/11/2021 13:11

I’ve got some very similar ones and I feel like they’re dated. I think the only way to wear long boots at the moment is to wear a midi skirt over the top of them, but that depends on whether you follow trends or if you don’t care.

Pheasantlysurprised · 24/11/2021 13:34

if MN says it's dated, it probably is on trend.
Ive noticed the desperation people have to categorise something as dated helps them to feel more secure about their own choices. Often because they cant wear the 'offending' item themselves.

from what i have noticed out and about, long boots are having a moment now.
Mumsnet will likely catch on to this when it's over Grin

Pheasantlysurprised · 24/11/2021 13:38

Oh and remember folks, the only way to avoid wearing dated clothing is to over consume like a desperate mofo.

renew all wardrobe items every two months, over spend and contribute to landfill, that's the ticket!

If you have worn the item within the past 5 yrs then it must be dated, so the only remedy is to consume, consume, consume and live in terror of some random middle aged nobody (likely no style mavern or supermodel, of course) tut tutting at your boots.

whatisthisinhere · 24/11/2021 14:35

I have some, and I love mine. I'm not the coolest, but I'm definitely not frumpy. But like I said I'm not cool

Rina66 · 24/11/2021 14:58

If you buy them from Selfridges as you can get 20% off today, so maybe order them and then think about it? I've had mine for years, still wear them, but I'm sure I only paid about £450 from Russell & Bromley, they're now £650 on the Selfridges site.

Journeynotdestination · 24/11/2021 15:31

I have some I very luckily bought from Oxfam for £45. They don’t look dated in my opinion as over the knee/high knee boots are a look on their own and not swayed so much by the chunky fashion. Mine look best with skinny black jeans & a hip length slightly oversized jacket. I think I’d feel a bit dated wearing them with a short skirt however.

Iamahippo · 24/11/2021 15:39

With a dress/skirt yes but not with skinnies.

They aren't dated

bonfireheart · 24/11/2021 15:39

They're fine OP, but think they need a real life view/try on.

Iamahippo · 24/11/2021 15:40

I've seen some similar boots on ZARA with a heel, I couldn't wear them as I have short legs lol

bonfireheart · 24/11/2021 15:40

@Pheasantlysurprised agree. Am sure someone will be along soon to tell you to buy a pair of white trainers instead.

flowery · 24/11/2021 15:43

I’ve had a pair of these for several years, I wear them LOADS. Including right now! Expensive, but per-wear, quite possibly best value boots I’ve ever had. So comfy too.

flowery · 24/11/2021 15:43

I wear with little skirts/dresses.

Musmerian · 24/11/2021 16:11

I am a short booby apple with good legs and I live in boots like these.

schmalex · 24/11/2021 16:17

I love Stuart Weitzman boots in general - great quality and comfortable too. So if you're going to get some of these I'd definitely get the SW ones rather than some cheap copy.

schmalex · 24/11/2021 16:17

Or skinny jeans! Grin

Peppercorn9 · 25/11/2021 20:35

Thanks for the replies! With @Pheasantlysurprised’s wise words ringing in my ears, I decided to take the plunge and have ordered an even taller pair of SW boots (second hand). Most of the clothes I wear and love are probably considered dated/naff by many (I live in floral dresses, denim minis and band T-shirts) but after a shitty couple of years and some stress-induced weight loss I think I want to focus on dressing for fun, rather than giving too much of a shit what people think. If my students or a few other school mums think I look like a vulgar old crone, to hell with ’em Grin
