Hair Question

I went to a new hairdresser and had my grey roots dyed. The permanent colour hasn't covered all the grey. There are a few strands of grey left and I've paid quite a lot of money.

The hairdresser has said this because I have quite a lot of grey and I would need to use a different type of dye in future for full coverage. I had a lot more grey before my during my post lockdown appointment and this didn't happen.

Surely this can't be right? I think perhaps the dye wasn't left on long enough. Can any hairdressers advise? Thanks

I'd not be happy if I still had greys after a hairdresser dye job. Surely it's up to them before they start to advise on what type of colour is needed for the coverage you need. Have you been there before?

hellowintersun · 20/11/2021 18:06

Yes but had a new hairdresser. I think it was the same dye as before but just on my roots.

Did they not comb it through a bit ?

The hairdressers first attempt failed to cover the resistant greys. She really should have remixed and made a resistant grey cover colour for those greys and done them for you. Not good!

@GoodnightGrandma - I have all my hair dyed every so often and then the roots done more regularly.

@GoodnightGrandma - I didn't phrase that very well but you know what I mean Smile

@Taoneusa - I don't think the hairdresser had time to do that.

It's just a few strands that the dye hasn't covered completely. A bit like when I used a semi permanent in lockdown but the dye at the hairdresser's is permanent.

Yeah, I get you. Ime, she should have offered for you to come back so she could colour the resistant greys. Grey hair varies in its ability to pick up colour, once you realise the percentage of colour resistance, you have to mix an appropriate formula.

Ah, I see. Thank you for the advice.

I wish I was good at colouring my own hair.

You probably could become good at coloring your own hair, if you treated it as a mini project, devoted a few hours to reading on the Wella website (for example) and watched a few color tutorials by Wella. Once you’ve looked up your shade , then via eBay you can purchase color crème and developer, and hairdressers brushes, and go for it.
All the information is available. Just an hour or two of reading/watching and you would be considerably more knowledgeable.
Once you’ve bought the products, you can retouch at home whenever you like. It’s extremely affordable.
