Blusher - where do I start?

I've never used blusher before, but I was talking to a woman yesterday and noticed she was wearing some and how nice it looked!

I just don't know where to start. Powder? Cream? Pink/red/peach?? How do you know without spending a fortune?

My makeup routine is fairly minimal (concealer under eyes, powder, eyeliner and mascara).

I don't know what 'season' I am, but I suit turquoise/teal/navy and look terrible in pastels and like a corpse in beige. I have brown hair and dark brown eyes. My skin flushes easily when I'm hot (which is why I've never really bothered with blusher before!)

Any hep would be much appreciated!

I love blusher! If I were you I’d start with Primark blushers. They are only £1 for the powder ones, so you can afford to potentially make a mistake. Apologies, though I’m not very good at recommending colours but maybe a pale pink? Hopefully someone will be along with the same colouring as you to be a bit more helpful.

Pinch your skin and look at the colour, if the colour is warm, go for a peachy colour, if it's a colder colour go for a rose colour.

I prefer a powder and Boots Natural Collection have some budget foolproof colours

I had a bit of a revelation the other day. I'm very pale and cool-toned, light blue eyes ashy hair. I've always reached for the lightest blush, so like a light pink. The other day i tried on a darker blush that was more reddish and it looked LOADS better!

On this subject people usually recommend a creme blush. I've bought and binned a few because I can't work out how to apply it with wiping off foundation??

Bobbi brown rouge is amazing. I started wearing blush in my 40s and it honestly lifts my face.

I use Clinique for powder blush, I love the peach pop and pink pop, they have a slight sheen, really easy to apply and very natural - I think if you can get to a Clinique counter they'd help you to pick the right shade, I think there's 4 or 5 to choose from.

I also like Trinny London Lip2Cheek for cream blush, I apply it with a foundation brush after foundation. I like the cream blushes because you can also use them on your lips, it makes my make up look put together! There's a good match to me shade finder on the Trinny site, you put in hair, eye, skin colour and it gives you suggestions.

I hate cream blush just because I like to uses brushes for my make up. I'd go to boots/super drug and pick up a couple of one that take your fancy and try them

I prefer cream blush for a fresher finish but I do like Benefit Dandelion powder. I'm cool toned with light blonde hair and green eyes.

I have dark blonde hair and blue/grey eyes and always picked a pink blusher. I had my makeup done once and the assistant said not to use any pink as I have enough pink in my skin already. I use a peach and looks natural.

Thanks. I'll get a couple of cheap ones when I'm next in town to experiment with.
I'll start with powder as I know what I'm doing with that. Cream seems a bit more complicated 😬

Powder is good to start as can build it up easily. It's a bit of trial and error really I think. Sometimes the one that looks scarily bright in the pan doesn't come put as heavy as you might think as you can use a light hand. I'd try and get a peachy one and a pink one and see how you like both

violetbunny · 21/11/2021 06:24

What skin type do you have? I have oily skin and generally get on better with powders or liquids, cream can be quite good if you have dry skin.

If you're not sure what skin tone you have, then perhaps try a relatively neutral blush? If you're a light to medium skintone then I would go for a warm pink. NARS Orgasm is a relatively popular shade and suits a wide variety of skintones.

Thanks.

I bought some of this today

www.superdrug.com/Make-Up/Face/Blusher/L%27Oreal-Paris-Skin-Paradise-Melon-Dollar-Baby-Blush/p/805310?gclid=Cj0KCQiA-eeMBhCpARIsAAZfxZCHvl4uEgCdmXU49siIbWbxN_onxuuGskuKhIj21w4HRwMF4AU4raoaAvA5EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I doesn't seem to make a massive difference to how I look, but it smells gorgeous and has a bit of shimmer! It's a good start!
