Oo tell me how to use them.. Do you curl before or after mascara? Do they break your lashes? I worry about that.

So many people have laughed at me for using them but I really wouldnt be without them - my eyelashes stand straight out at 45 degrees without them.

Very tempting to curl them a bit more once mascara is on but dont - unless you are intending to remove your lashes

paulaplumpbottom · 14/12/2007 18:25

Its an epiphany isn't it

NineUnlovelyTinselDecorations · 14/12/2007 18:25

Don't waste your money - you only need a teaspoon

I always trimmed my fake lashes or you look like a tranny IMO.

contentiouscat · 14/12/2007 18:27

Been using them for years and have not suffered from eyelash breakage at all.

Love the idea of falsies but never been able to use them as they are so long I always feel I look like a drag queen.

TinyTimsGangGawdBlessUs1andAll · 14/12/2007 18:29

Have you tried putting on the fake lashes yet? (I've read trimming to size is what you have to do)

Last Christmas I tried to use some fake lashes. I bought individual ones - I love that look where the lashes on the corner are slightly longer. V sexy. They were murderous to get on though - and to keep on. You look mad rather than sexy if they end up pointing the wrong way.

I'd love some semi permament fake extensions but they seem to be expensive.

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 14/12/2007 18:31

teaspoon no comparison to shu uemura curlers. bought heated ones once, they were peesh.

They make ALL the difference imo.

Top tip though - if you feel a sneeze coming on, let go of them!

janeite · 14/12/2007 18:42

How do you actually USE them please? They look terrifying.

flowerytaleofNewYork · 14/12/2007 18:45

I don't leave the house without curling my eyelashes, I'd rather do that than mascara, lippy or anything, makes SO much difference.

And the key is to squeeze really hard for a couple of seconds rather than medium hard for ages. Of course if you are going to squeeze really hard you have to be extra careful not to get a bit of eyelid caught...

southeastastra · 14/12/2007 18:46

i use them all the time. i break all the rules and do them after mascara. (though not too hard or bits get stuck)

RubySlippedonastraymincepie · 14/12/2007 18:48

i have heated eyelash curlers

they are amazing

i use them after mascara but there is no danger of breaking the lashes with these

contentiouscat · 14/12/2007 18:49

I was thinking of getting the heated curlers and someone on handbag told me to just warm up my normal ones - ouch not a good idea.

expatinscotland · 14/12/2007 18:52

i have the heated ones that were in the In Style Best guide a couple of years back.

worth their weight in gold!

i have long lashes and some of my eyelashes grow inward.

not anymore!

i use them before mascara.

NineUnlovelyTinselDecorations · 14/12/2007 18:59

I just couldn't put heat near my eyelashes - I'm too clumsy. Agree that good curlers are worth spending on though (and tweezers).

I trim length as well as width or I just look freakish, but you do have to be careful or the effect is very strange. Trim individual ones unevenly rather than all of them in a straight line IYSWIM (unless you like the Girl's World look)

contentiouscat · 14/12/2007 19:04

I dont think I would attempt to trim the length of the false eyelashes but trimming the width could be a big help hmmm ive got some upstairs so I may have a go once the kids are in bed

so tell me
what difference does curling your eyelashes make? I mean from a distance, clearly when you are 2 inches from the mirror they will look different but does anyone actually notice?

so why bother?

Have seen a few people in public with these instruments and they look hid

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 14/12/2007 19:58

there's no point in my putting mascara on without curling first. hell, there's no point in having eyes. (esp if you're a spec-wearer and your eye make-up options are limited by the deirdre barlow effect).

expatinscotland · 14/12/2007 20:30

they just make the mascara sit better, Countess.

they also make the lashes frame your eyes better, a real bonus when you're at the age when you're thinking, 'If I won the Lotto, I'd have blepharoplasty in a second!'

ChopsterRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 14/12/2007 20:52

I just don't get eyelash curlers. They don't seem to make any difference to me. Maybe because I have sod all eyelashes?
