Help me dress my fugly self for a wedding

Had a baby six weeks ago. Currently over usual weight, flabby tum, fat thighs and bum. Breastfeeding.
What on earth can I wear to a wedding in two weeks time? Breastfeeding so outfit needs to allow for doing that in public.
And have to wear flats as there’ll be some walking and with pram I can’t handle heels.

Oh and had a c section so couldn’t do tight things, not that i would given how out of shape I am.

Low budget too, but any ideas what look / outfit type I could go for?

The wedding doesn’t have a dress code so doesn’t need to be fancy, but I’d like to look like I’ve made more effort than your average day.

Juno Jack's sell some some lovely bf friendly clothes. They're not massively expensive but aware that low budget means different things for different people so sorry if not appropriate

Prettybubblesintheair · 19/11/2021 13:34

I’m afraid I don’t have any useful suggestions other than ASOS, new look etc. But just wanted to say give yourself a break! You’ve just had major abdominal surgery, you’re feeding and looking after a small human and trying to recover! I’m sure you’re absolutely not fugly in the slightest. I hope you find something that makes you feel beautiful x

Prettybubblesintheair · 19/11/2021 13:35

Oh and wrap dresses are great for breastfeeding x

Bluntness100 · 19/11/2021 13:36

What about a wrap dress?

WhatHoMarjorie · 19/11/2021 13:56

You say you've got a small budget. I'd be inclined to start somewhere like New Look and have a look at their midi dresses. Or, what about this from Silkfred?

WhatHoMarjorie · 19/11/2021 13:57

I think it's easier to pair flats with a long dress than a shorter one.

jellybean30 · 19/11/2021 14:00

Maybe a button front dress? I wore a lot of those for all sorts of occasions after both my babies (spring and summer babies though). This one is well priced https://www.nobodyschild.com/lenzingtm-ecoverotm-blue-and-white-ditsy-alexa-midi-dress.html

Don't be too hard on yourself Thanks

newfriend05 · 19/11/2021 14:02

Go and get yourself a wrap dress , they are perfect for a curve figure , will be easy to breastfeed and with Black Friday coming up your get a lovely one at half price.. and on a side note .. congratulations on the baby and be kind to yourself .

MavisMonkey · 19/11/2021 14:13

I'd go for a maternity wrap dress this so you'll be comfortable, it'll be flattering to your post partum belly and it will help breast feeding

Wear with a pair of sparkly flats

I’d go for separates. Easy to bf in if you chuck a vest top underneath and do the thing of one up one done. Easy to get to fit both top and bottom. If you get matching (coordinated) then it looks as dressed up as a dress.

CheeseMaiden · 19/11/2021 14:27

Be kind to yourself, your body has done something amazing! I found that H&M had some good breastfeeding dresses in their maternity range.

tunainatin · 19/11/2021 14:35

Perhaps something simple and comfortable but in a beautiful colour, and make it fancier jewellery etc.

PinnyPencher3 · 19/11/2021 18:26

Thank you all 💐
Some great suggestions. Will go shopping next week.
Sorry Was negative, felt a bit anxious imagining everyone in their finest and me not feeling confident or glamorous, not to mention being drink free when everyone else is living up!!!!!!

Have you thought of a wrap jumpsuit or floaty trousers an fancy top/jacket? Personally, if I was wearing flats, I think I'd prefer trousers rather than a skirt/dress... Keep it simple and focus on swish hair/hat/jewellery or scarf.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 19/11/2021 19:01

I went to a wedding when DC3 was about 8 weeks old and I was breastfeeding and a size 18. I wore a jersey material long skirt and a wrap top ( not made specifically for breastfeeding but wrap tops work well for breastfeeding). We actually still have the photos on the windowsill (it was ten years ago). I'd recommend something like that. Practical and you feel as good as you can in the circumstances. Keeping children in my arms made me feel better about everything I must admit.

KissedintheDark · 19/11/2021 19:01

A fascinator would set whatever dress you choose too, op.
Check them out on ebay - they're quite reasonable.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 19/11/2021 19:02

I had a (third) c section too. Jersey is your friend.

slipperyeel · 19/11/2021 19:17

As others have said, give yourself a break!
Wrap dress and some lipstick.
I went to a wedding when DD was a few weeks old, everyone was looking at her rather than me!

Samanabanana · 19/11/2021 19:37

Try SilkFred for a wrap dress. Not too expensive and the dresses always fit well!

PinnyPencher3 · 22/11/2021 09:30

Fab thanks so much for the links and suggestions xx

I did black tie when dd was 6 months (had been carefully planned in advance, before I realised that I wouldn't want to leave her!)

I was a size 18 and wore stretchy long skirt with sheer overlay which skimmed everything magically. Black maternity / feeding vest top (only thing that fitted boobs!) and black shrug (so couldn't see straps). Plus fabulous hair and makeup.
Felt really glam and got loads of compliments.

I think new mums automatically look beautiful and I know I'm not alone in this.

Good luck and enjoySmile

Rina66 · 22/11/2021 10:12

I think I'd go for a midi skirt with elasticated waist, a thick strapped cami and a jacket? Separates that you'll wear again. I went to weddings in September and October, both times people had on biker jackets over dresses, looked great.

I went to a wedding bf a newborn. I wore separates with a cami under the top.....the top was actually a maternity top but allowed me to BF easily either pulling it up or down. I wore trouser and a cardigan.....yes I know a cardigan isn't massively smart but it matched well and I already had it. I did wear heels to feel a little glam.

I wouldn't do a wrap dress as I would end up with it all falling open....showing all my books etc etc.

Another wedding I went to PG I wore a H&M maternity dress....it was gorgeous....I would have worn that again if I had a chance. (I still looked pg for a while after.my.kids so the maternity wear got worn a lot....)
