Hair and a rant

I was going to try to buy something to perk up my once lovely hair

I used to have Babyliss Big Hair but think my locks are too thin for it now
Do I need smaller barrel rollers maybe?

Between ageing, hormones etc I am starting to think, why bother? And it's annoying to pay for stuff and then suddenly find you've aged out of it.

Maybe I just shouldn't bother? Just occasionally get a blow out for any events etc?

I also hate hair feeling like it's full of product, which doesn't help.

What type of texture does your hair have? Do you think you could embrace your natural texture with minimal product.

How does the Revlon blow-dry brush compare to the babyliss? I had a knock off and that was pretty good so I imagine that the real thing is even better.
The other thing to look at is diet and could you try and eat a good fats, whole foods 'hair health' diet for a while and see if it makes the difference.

My hair is not responding well to any of my attempts to return it to it's former glory (circa 2009-10) I am trying olaplex treatment which a lot of people swear by but personally it hasn't made that much difference. I will be getting a good tidy cut so hopefully that will help.

Can you show us your hair? How old are you?

I’ve had succes with colourless henna, less product, and a bit of babyliss big hair (bit after leaving hair to dry naturally for 90% first)

What does colourless henna do? I've never henna because I have a slight allergic reaction to similar things, but may attempt a patch test if it does miracles.

So, to answer questions

Hair type - fine, glossy. Used to be a LOT of it and I think that's why it held any style with the lightest hairspray.

I have a few chronic health issues and was lucky to have as much hair till early 40s, am now 46. I lost some in my 30s but not so much that people who knew me could see it.

Around 42 it got worse. I bought the Babyliss Big Hair. It worked pretty well.

Now - I can't really tell when it happened because I find it all a bit overwhelming - I have a lot less hair than when I was 42. So the Big Hair just hasn't got enough hair to pump up!

My sister did my hair recently with a load of rollers, that and a helmet hold hairspray saw me through parents anniversary party. It took her ages to do, but I want to have some options to look better on a daily basis.

I kind of like hair that moves on a daily basis though! I appreciate I will have to compromise and use more product.

So, I hope this make sense - is a smaller barrel styler better for thinning hair? Is it easier to jusjsh it up in the morning?

I saw QVC have some Babyliss curl things on offer, they take returns, but I'm not sure if heated curlers can be used close to the scalp?

Then again, I'm not sure I am going about this the right way anyway.

I know two people - three if you include my mum - in a similar position and they've all gone for "flatten hair, put in ballerina bun or twist". That doesn't suit me and I get a headache with hair up all day. But it's definitely the easiest option.

Thank you, sorry for the length of the post.

I get you. My hair is thinning a bit, am 50

For shorter/thinner hair def go for smaller barrel

Mousse is good for a bit of volume, I like to use it ever now and then

I use Henna for conditioning, you can’t use it if you also use dye. But I’m allergic to dye anyway

Trial and error

I can look glam for 2 hrs, but in real life my hair is mostly in a bun Grin

DaisyNGO · 19/11/2021 19:49

Thanks Marlene
It's in good condition which is nice

Do heated rollers or stylers mean you can get away with no product except I guess a light spray? I've never used heated rollers.

Then I could wash hair every other day I hope. I tend to wash it daily - old habit from gym and Tube - but while I am no longer on the Tube daily , if I want it to look nice it needs a wash and blow dry.

So I guess I'm now on...heated rollers or a Revlon one step type thing? I actually don't really need the smoothing that the one step provides - very handy when leaving gym in a hurry but probably not right for my life now.

QVC have these - being returnable is a big advantage.
