Micro blading - who knows about it?

FruHagen · 17/11/2021 21:25

I am thinking of having my eyebrows micro bladed. They were thick and bushy but I over plucked years ago and made them crap.

Anyone here had it done? What is it like? I am in the North West - Preston/Southport area - any recommendations?

I did call one practitioner and she said I would need a 6 week top up after initial treatment. Is that true?

I've had it done. Hurts a little, more scratchy than anything. I would recommend but choose your brow artist wisely.

It's basically a tattoo on your face.

6 week top up is correct.

No recommendations as I'm not near you.

Pinetreesfall · 17/11/2021 23:27

I had mine done a couple of years ago - previously stupidly over plucked them before and was almost scared of a fuller brow.
Honestly best thing I've ever done. I now don't need to do anything with my brows apart from the odd bit of plucking. No makeup no horrible brown pencil.
It wasn't cheap but I 100% recommend it

NotMyCat · 18/11/2021 11:15

Olivia naylor did mine

It is sooo worth it.

The 6 week top up is correct. They just top up any bits that have faded or if they can see they have missed a bit etc.

It doesn't hurt much at all. They put a numbing cream on & once this wore off it still wasn't particularly painful. As someone else said, it feels like a scratch.

My eyebrows were just a bit pathetic before. One sort of cut off half way. I first had micro blading carried out about 3 years ago and 2 years later I had it re-done (they recommend going back every year as it fades a bit). Mine hadn't faded too much after a couple of years but it did need a bit of a spruce. They look really good and natural now. My eyebrows were so thin and pointless and now they look normal and I don't have to draw them on every day if I haven't got time.

If I can find a pic of the before and after - I will post it on here.

snoozeysleepy · 18/11/2021 11:26

Things have moved on and microblading is not best for oily skin (I found out the hard way, it didn't last 10 months before looking faded and ashy - I have dark brown hair). Look into ombré and powder brows too. Speak to your beauty therapist about what method is best for your skin type. I've now had ombré brows done - much better for my skin type

Mine are micropigmentation (so with a needle)
Before and after, and 4 years on

Ive had my brows microbladed for about 4/5 years now - best thing Ive done 'beauty' wise. I overplucked as a teenager and they never grew back so years of having to draw on my brows and being very self conscious about them. From the start I made it clear I wanted as natural as look as poss - subtle is the key - a good practitioner should draw some brows on first so you can check the shape and size etc before they start with the microblading - so tell them then and there if you dont like what you see! Mine last about 12-18 months before they start looking faded/patchy. It is expensive but saves me time and has helped my confidence in how I look.

Untrained · 18/11/2021 11:57

I would also stress the importance of researching your practitioner well and look at examples of their work. Microblading technicians are popping up all over the place now and some are suspiciously cheap!

whiskyremorse · 18/11/2021 15:01

I have also had my brows done by Olivia Naylor after @NotMyCat recommended her on another thread. I highly recommend Olivia for natural brows. Have a look a her work on Insta.

Phew! I get worried when I recommend stuff but I only will say it if I'm 100% positive about who/what Grin
FruHagen · 19/11/2021 20:19

Wow @NotMyCat amazing brows

So yeah I think this is for me, I do have greasy skin though so perhaps the ombré is better (whatever that is?)

Thanks for input

Does anyone know if it works if you have lots of eyebrow hair? I have plenty of hair but it is really fair so no one can see it. I get mine waxed and dyed every few weeks. If I got micro blasting done, is have to shave off my eyebrows, wouldn't I?

Greyhare · 19/11/2021 20:31

I have oily skin and have had mine done, I have had the two treatments and then had them redone 2 years later as they do fade faster and lose definition on oily skin, mine are really patchy again but it's been 3 years since they were last done but I still have a general shape so it takes two seconds to fill in with a pencil (one of my eyebrow is pretty much missing, I think I have apx 6 hairs).

I also agree with choosing your microblader wisely as I have seen some shocking examples.

ParkheadParadise · 19/11/2021 20:36

I've had mine done, yes top-up in 6 weeks is correct.
It wasn't cheap but worth it.
Definitely do your research. The clinic I attended has a 6-month waiting list.

CatalinaCasesolver · 19/11/2021 20:55

I absolutely love mine and they have lasted two years so far with no signs of fading

Jazzledazzle · 19/11/2021 20:57

@KickAssAngel That is what I wonder too - my eyebrows are really fair so can't be seen and need drawn on every day. I used to get them shaped and tinted but lockdown got me out of the habit. 3 of my friends have had microblading and it looks amazing. I wondered if I would still need to tint the fair hairs after microblading though. My friends are all dark haired.

HermioneWeasley · 19/11/2021 21:07

Mine are naturally pale and look v natural but you can see them. I love them.

I find it uncomfortable but worth it

ILoveHuskies · 19/11/2021 22:26

I'm a micro blading and PMU artist. I'm v tired and slightly drunk but I'm marking my place to come back and help you tomorrow x

Hope you had a good night ILoveHuskies and when you're up to it, can you explain the difference between micro blading and nano blading please?

I've an initial consultation & patch test next week to get my brows nano bladed-they're looking very pale now (used to be v dark brown) and thin and seem to have stopped growing!

Your brows look amazing Notmycat

Cannot agree more

Sadly a lot of ladies come to me and I have to refer them for removal as their brows have been absolutely butchered by crappy "artists"

Good brows aren't cheap and cheap brows aren't good !

No you don't need to shave your brows off. A good artist will work with what you've got. They may shape them a little underneath but that would be the most I'd personally do

Thank you yes I did although Bir fragile today 😝

Microblading and Nano blading are basically different names for the same thing

Brows are created using a tiny blade and pigment to create tiny "hair strokes" that build up to look like natural brows

ILoveHuskies · 20/11/2021 14:53

@FruHagen

Yes it is correct that you will need a retouch at about 6-8 weeks post procedure

usually that is included in the total cost but not always

After the retouch your new brows should then last 12-18 months before needing a colour refresh. Most artists don't charge as much for the colour refresh as they do the initial treatment (as long as it's done within a certain time frame, usually 18 months or so)

Claudia84 · 20/11/2021 16:45

If you have oily skin look up powder or ombré brows. I also think powder brows look good when you have more of a gap and tend to fill in bits rather than draw the whole brow on.. so where a PP said about having eye brow hair already there - it creates a more filled in effect.
