Struggle with moisturiser

Tinks15 · 17/11/2021 19:39

Does anyone just not suit any moisturiser? I’ve tried various ones over the years for my sensitive skin & they always & I mean always end up clogging me up & breaking me out.

I do generally need something as I’m on tret (skin+me)

Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks

I find ELF moisturiser really light - it's a jelly texture and hopefully won't break you put.

Vichy also a good make for oil prone skin

BodgertheJogger · 17/11/2021 21:26

Moo goo is amazing. I use the full cream one on my skin. The brand is excellent for being gentle on delicate skin

SweetBabyCheeses99 · 17/11/2021 21:56

Are you using moisturisers with spf? They’re all awful (and I’m not convinced necessary anyway). Pretty much anything without spf is better than the best available creams with spf. I like the Aldi ones!

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 17/11/2021 22:03

LRP toleriane ultra (the fluid one in a pump) for me. Light with no sparkles, colours or strong fragrance (zits and redness ahoy!). I also like the Lumene hydra and oleo range but you may find it a bit rich.

I have sensitive skin that easily breaks out and lush vanishing cream has been amazing for me. Sometimes I switch it out but I always end up regretting it and going back to what works

They used to provide free testers before covid, not sure if that's a thing anymore....

Gettingusedtothelimelight · 17/11/2021 22:11

Simple do a light moisturiser which is the only one I find doesn't upset my skin.

Kjr33 · 18/11/2021 11:07

What about a gel/cream? Versed dew point is supposed to be good. I use the rovectin lotus water one and it’s fab, I think I’m on my third one which is generally unheard of for me.

dontgobaconmyheart · 18/11/2021 11:11

Aveeno? I'm using skin and me and have had a lot of dryness. Resorted to aveeno cream on a whim and have stuck with it.

Otherwise don't skin and me suggest plain non aggravating products in various price bands to use alongside your regime? I'd look at what they suggest and try whatever suits the budget as I know they advise to keep it as plain as possible whilst using their regime.

Tinks15 · 18/11/2021 11:24

Thanks everyone will look at these.

@dontgobaconmyheart I’ve tried their recommendations still doesn’t help.

I use tretinoin. You need a non-comodogenic. I use either Neutrogena or Simple light moisturisers. Anything richer makes me break out.

1997again · 18/11/2021 11:39

Moisturiser is my big problem too. I have extremely sensitive reactive skin really dehydrated as well

It’s been a nightmare trying to find a moisturiser that works

CreepingDeath · 18/11/2021 12:14

Cerave is a great lightweight moisturiser, and cheap too, I use the lotion.

If you're on tretinoin your skin will be a mess for a while no matter what you use - for some people adding niacinamide (in a low percentage) can help, I use the Ordinary one with Zinc.

Also SPF is super important, use a separate one to your moisturiser to get enough coverage.

TheCategoryIs · 18/11/2021 13:37

First make sure to avoid anything with fragrance in as that is completely unnecessary and usually irritating. For night I recommend Avene Tolerance Emulsion. For day, I use CeraVe PM (!). It's got a lovely light texture. For the separate SPF I like Eucerin but basically you want something as simple and basic as possible.

I've had break outs for 30 years and it's only recently I've realised it was often a) chopping and changing products and b) fragrance in products.

Tinks15 · 18/11/2021 13:57

I’ve tried a cerave one but I didn’t rate it…how many different ones are there? Maybe I could another?
So yes I always use a separate spf & am happy with it actually, I’ve been using it for 2 or so years. It’s the Heliocare one.

@Kjr33 I’ve not heard of this one - I’ve just had a quick look on boots & it gets good reviews!

@Tinks15 if you go for the versed one can you report back please? I really want to try it, I saw a gift set that I might put on my xmas list.

SummaLuvin · 18/11/2021 17:08

I'm a bit late, but if you find the above recommendations don't work I love the Clean & Clear oil free moisturiser - its super lightweight and sinks in fast.

Soontobe60 · 18/11/2021 17:19

I’ve just started using the Aveeno baby moisturiser - my skin’s quite sore at the moment and this one is so soothing. Sometimes, simplicity is the best.
