Going out tonight - and having looked at my wardrobe - have realised I'm going to look like cr*p.......

ok so it's only a "girls night in" (at a friends house).

But I know a lot of the people going are going to look fabulous - and I'm going to look like cr*p.

I have nothing to wear - and no money to buy anything.....

Can you borrow something from a friend?

paranoidfool · 14/12/2007 13:11

List what you've got then. I'm sure someone will be along with magic suggesytions.

TheIceQueen · 14/12/2007 13:16

dusty - I would - but all my friends are about 5ft 7 and above.....and I'm 5ft...

I have 2 pairs of jeans, one shapeless and boring and old (but I fit into them properly). The other a nicer shape (don't ask me what type as I can't remember ) but a bit of a squeeze to get into but still reasonably new (bought them just before falling pg with DS3....)

Tops - well ermm, they're all pretty crappy, and old and rubbish and, and and.........gawd I need to go clothes shopping once I go back to work....

don't own a dress, and only have one skirt - a black "gypsy" type skirt - which I'll be wearing on Sunday night (as it my only "black" for black and white dress for the Carol Service)...so can't wear that as I'm bound to throw up on it or something and not get it washed and ready again for Sunday.

and as for shoes - I own one pair - a pair of black boots......(well I lie I do have a few other ones lying around but they're rather dusty and I can't remember where they all are)...so no choice there.

Charity shop pronto?

littleboo · 14/12/2007 13:20

what kind of tops?
Do you have any accessories, scarves, beads etc?

TheIceQueen · 14/12/2007 13:20

I don't even have enough for that - I did have a look in the cheaper of the charity shops this morning - but they didn't have anything in my size...and the others - well they're so expensive I may as well go to Matalan!

OP posts:
TheIceQueen · 14/12/2007 13:24

They're all plain, single colour tops,

I'm hopeless at buying clothes, and even worse at describing them - I need one of those personal shoppers to go with me when I'm shopping to help me find things that suit me...

I do have some scarves somewhere (I think....) - unfortunately I've just put DS3 down for his nap.....in our bedroom - so can't go and pull everything out just now...

Jeans, boots, plain top (vest/tshirt) layered with cardi or shirt? Plus beads/jewellery or something?

littleboo · 14/12/2007 13:25

How about layering a couple of tops, short sleeved over longer, 2 vests?
Any shirts or blouses?

TheIceQueen · 14/12/2007 13:28

ooo - i've never done layering tops before... (well unless you count cardis......that don't fit anymore....my "warm" items are a Tescos boys fleece , and a black wooly jumper with one of those big saggy polo neck type tops.....IYKWIM).

No shirts or blouses either (gosh I'm really in rather a sad state aren't i!)

OP posts:
littleboo · 14/12/2007 13:31

I reckon layered tops with some longer beads or longer necklace, with jeans and boots would be fine

pantoinghousewife · 14/12/2007 13:35

Put a coloured polo neck jersey under a summer dress or top.

TheIceQueen · 14/12/2007 13:35

ok - sounds good - any chance of some links to some (varied) examples of this "layering long and short sleeved tops" business - to try and less the risk of my looking like I've had a fight with the wardrobe

OP posts:
TheIceQueen · 14/12/2007 13:36

pantoing - I don't own a summer dress LOL (don't own a dress full stop!)

OP posts:
littleboo · 14/12/2007 13:39

UMMM , not sure how to do the link thing myself.
need kinda of fitted long sleeve one on first, then put teeshirt one on over 9 should be fittedish as well, or could use a shirt. Mix and match colours, If the longer sleeved one is slightly longer that looks good as well so shows at the bottom

littleboo · 14/12/2007 13:40

Or how about dp's shirt with a big belt??

TheIceQueen · 14/12/2007 13:43

ok......once DS3 has woken up I'll grab some possible combinations and link to a photo of them - don't want to look even more foolish trying a look I've never tried before with friends who always look fabulous LOL.

OP posts:
littleboo · 14/12/2007 13:44

Yes that would be good

TheIceQueen · 14/12/2007 13:45

hmm - not overly keen on any of DH's shirts....and I don't own a big belt either (don't own a belt at all!!)

You know the more this thread continues, the more I realise just what a sorry state my wardrobe is in!!

OP posts:
TheIceQueen · 14/12/2007 13:46

thank goodness for MN LOL

MerryAnnSinglemas · 14/12/2007 14:00

have you a plain white shirt and some black trousers ? could accessorise these to look chic and understated - nice scarf/necklace ?

TheIceQueen · 14/12/2007 14:05

you're not going to believe this MAS......I don't own any plain white tops.....I have a sort of creamy beige one.....but I'm wearing it at the moment, and it really does need washing

OP posts:
MerryAnnSinglemas · 14/12/2007 16:05

um, not sure what to suggest then !

littleboo · 14/12/2007 16:36

Ice queen are you there yet??
