Regretting a tiny wardrobe full of neutrals

Has anyone else minimised their wardrobe and regretted it? At start of lockdown I went through a phase of chucking stuff out and got rid of almost 2/3 of my wardrobe.

I also watched a lot of YouTubers who have very neutral/capsule wardrobes and got rid of bold colours (I’d convinced myself colour = not classy) and patterned items (except stripes) and treated myself to some good quality basics and classic pieces to fill any gaps.

At first it seemed great. Everything went with everything, finding things to wear was easier but then I realised the trendy neutrals of the moment (beige, browns etc.) just wash me out and having dark hair and very pale skin, I suited all the jewel colours (the emerald green, royal blue, red) that I’d chucked (donated) and … I’m also bored!

Obviously I can bring more colour back into my wardrobe it’s not a big deal but I’m so annoyed with myself. I just swept along with what seemed like a good idea and now massively regret it!!

Such a time consuming and costly mistake! Has anyone else minimised or changed their wardrobe and regretted it.

Out of interest, can anyone recommend a site to ‘get ones colours’ done? I’ve heard of the concept but never done it and am now intrigued!

I had my colours done by 'Colour Me Beautiful'. It was really useful. On the rare occasion I buy something not in my colour range because it was in a sale or I thought it might be okay, when I get it home I realise it really doesn't suit me - makes me look washed out. And no - I don't work for CMB or know anyone who does, but I highly recommend it!

Worst mistake I made was getting rid of maternity clothes when I thought I’d have no more. Got pregnant the very next month. It had been painful having them in the wardrobe so I know why I did it but If I was there now having watched minimal
Mom I would have put them in the loft out of sight.
I had a lovely black jacket, trousers and skirt that all matched and a couple of blouses. I didn’t have many pieces but if I’d kept those it would have saved me some ££.
In terms of normal clothes I think I have only ever got rid of things that were worn out or never really suited or fitted in the first place. I’m another dark hair and pale skin person and I love my emerald greens, burgundy and rich blues with navy and black. Beige gets nowhere near my wardrobe.

I have brown hair and olive skin and browns and beiges don't really work for me either.

The best neutrals for me are navy, black and white/cream, but I have to be careful with the shade of white/cream. Anything too stark or too yellowish doesn't work. You need to find the neutrals that work for you regardless of what happens to suit the youtubers!

Neutrals are a great base, but I also wouldn't want a wardrobe full of neutrals only. Very boring!

I sent loads of my smart Hobbs / LK bennet etc stuff to the charity shop when I realised I was never going to entirely shift the pregnancy weight and a change of body shape meant I was never going to fit in them again. Also dry clean only never gonna work with young DC, and we were moving house. I still miss some of those beautiful items, especially the vintage silk stuff I'd had altered. However, I raised £400 -500 for charity so I try to remember that as I lounge around in the leggings, tunics and fly or DM boots that are my go-tos these days
