Melasma made worse by Trentinoin?

I've been using Trent and Hydroquinone for 4 months, and then moved onto Trent with azelaic acid for last 2 months via Dermatcia but where as noone mentioned my Melasma before, two family members have asked if I have bruises on my face in the last week.

Anyone else's get worse? I'm thinking of trying to get a referral to a dermatologist in person.

Are you wearing enough spf/re-applying often enough? Hyperpigmentation gets worse in sunlight, and tretinoin makes your skin more sensitive to the sun, so that would be my first guess. Otherwise a dermatologist appointment would probably be a good idea.

Are you wearing spf daily?

I'm using factor 50 La Roche-Posay Anthelios each morning. In the summer I'd reapply. Sunscreen makes my face sore and I think my skin looks nicer before I put that on.

I put a lot of the two patches too.

If it’s making your face sore, try a different one. I honestly think the key to sorting any hyperpigmentation issues is to find an spf that you like, and which you enjoy wearing so you’re not tempted to skip it. Otherwise you’re undoing all the work you’re putting in with the different actives.

I’d try some different spf’s and see if there is one you like more, if you are spending on tret I’d suggest spending on spf and trying the anessa or sheisedo ones but the isntree hylaronic watery gel is really nice too. Maybe an spf stick to go over the affected areas, mine is boots no7, it makes it easier to reapply where you need. On a different note are you using vitamin c? It’s supposed to help, skinceuticals is supposed to be great but it’s ££££ I use timeless.

I've found vit c irratates my skin. I'm kt seeing any positives with tret yet. Not just the melasma, but my pores look worse too. I dont know whether that's the tret or sunscreen.

I've ordered another and will just work through them.
