I have owned one or two of these items in the past, but have come to the conclusion that I am not keen. They don't give you any flexibility regarding what to wear with them, eg you can't put a shirt underneath because it is a bit chilly. Also there is the washing issue. And have seen items I like only to realise they have an extra bit attached.

ggirlsbells · 13/12/2007 14:32

Sarah big boob Beeny wears them all the time.
They do look very cheap.

funnypeCOOLYULEiar · 13/12/2007 14:33

mine is from Monsoon and quite nice I think - very flattering (due to lack of bulkiness, perhaps). I would never iron a whole white shirt to wear for 'fun', which was its appeal for me [slattern emoticon]

Tis a handwash jobbie, though, so spends most of its time in laundry basket...

walkinginawinterBundleland · 13/12/2007 14:33

actually, i saw a very nice one in whistles teh other day, all chiffony and light.

zippitippitoes · 13/12/2007 14:34

exactly occasionally one of the bits is ok..but it has a bit of dross attached in such a way u cant cut it off

and why do u need such ugly stuff becos u work in an office

what kind of mad notion is that

MP I've just been to have a look at my washing machine to double-check, and it has a setting called "non-fast coloured cotton" - every washing machine I've ever known (all three of 'em ) have had this setting and I use it for anything I think might go wrong in the wash. It never ever fails me

mindalina · 13/12/2007 14:35

Flowerytale I am not in the least offended. I agree with you entirely, I am a lazy mare. And Tutter, yes, I did wear them to my low-paid-clerical-jobs

zippitippitoes · 13/12/2007 14:37

if u have a low paid clerical job then surely u must make it more interesting by not pandering to the market

cant u be an intersting person in a dull job?

DS has a man's one (from Next) - white collar and black pullover. I told him it wouldn't come out well in the wash. Country Casuals used to sell them for those "ladies of a certain age" that even I haven't reached, but their "Shirt" part was detachable for washing.

LoveAngelGabriel · 13/12/2007 14:40

See, my excuse is I have never worked in an office type environment before (always worked in creative industries so could wear what the feck I wanted to) but was specifically told to wear something conservative and black for this short bit of part time work.. Urm, I don't do conservative and black, I thought (and if I did it would be all streamlined, gorgeous Prada type black...ok, maybe in my dreams..but anyway)...I panicked. I saw the offending pin-striped-shirt under-sweater item (does the fact that it's pin striped make t much worse? i fear so..) and thought 'that'll do'. I paid about 20 quid for it. I wore it for that week or two. I sold it for a quid at a car boot sale. I will never, ever be so stupid again (sobs)

mindalina · 13/12/2007 14:41

zippi I was the most interesting people in some of those offices regardless of what I wore

To my highly arrogant eighteen-year old self temping in offices full of middle-aged women, anyway...

LoveAngelGabriel · 13/12/2007 14:41

(shudders at thought of a man's one)

binklebells · 13/12/2007 14:43

They are easy and smart and less ironing, what more do you want.

Oh and I dont do low paid clerical work (can afford not to work dahling!!) and I do shop in Next so there!

zippitippitoes · 13/12/2007 14:43

i have a horrid suit that is thankfully 5 sizes too big that i wore for my interviews as an immigration officer last year..so i do vaguely understand what applying for jobs and actually being interviewed does to ur brain

luckily i have never got as far as employment lolol

I bought a tunic jumper with a little insert at the neckline and little attachments at teh sleeves - I like it! It looks nice - well, my nanny said so anyway.

tomandrom · 13/12/2007 14:45

I don't think they're too bad... they serve a purpose - to look vaguely like you've made an effort without actually having to iron a blimmin' white shirt (I do not do ironing unless it's unavoidable - it's more environmentally friendly you know!). I had one from a charity shop once and got rid of it once I realised that the cuff part meant that you couldn't push the sleeves up. Live and let live I say - there are MUCH worse things out there, like tracksuit bottoms with words across your arse, or stupid headbands for babies with no hair.

zippitippitoes · 13/12/2007 14:45

zippitippitoes · 13/12/2007 14:47

yep they are the junior version..if u like those u will like these

kittylouise · 13/12/2007 14:48

Vile. And they are a speciality of Next. Along with nasty nylon pinstripe skirt suits. And polo jumpers made of the cheapest shoddiest fabric in the world.

TutterrysChocolateOrange · 13/12/2007 14:48
