Tinted moisturiser or foundation?

LaCerbiatta · 13/12/2007 11:19

My brother works at the airport and gets up to 40% discount off creams, perfumes, etc and asked me to choose something for my birthday and christmas. I never wear foundation but, not being 20 anymore, I feel like I could really benefit from starting to wear something. My skin is not bad at all, so I don't need much, just to even it out a bit.

Should I get a foundation (has to be very light) or a tinted moisturiser? I was thinking about an estee lauder tinted moisturiser I've seen recommended here (links would be great, please!).

Other suggestions would be very welcome!

space nk - warning, you will want everything

no I don't like wipes either tbh

what airport does he work at? can you do a search on say, Manchester, and look what shops they have?

iirc airports always have FAB little sets of make up etc that they do not have anywhere else

bossykate · 13/12/2007 11:53

laura mercier mineral make up powder - fabbo. amazingly gives a dewy glow rather than a matte powdery finish. the lm tinted moisturiser is also good.

bossykate · 13/12/2007 11:54

wipes are great - if you buy the right ones! i use the simple ones and also olay daily facials sometimes. actually wipes better for eyes than eve lom.

nailpolish · 13/12/2007 11:55

the sight of the wipes with all the make up smeared over them makes me barf

dunno why

and mum uses them so i refuse to

tuga, if i were you id try the estee lauder. they have revamped stuff recently - i have go thte new eye cream and its fabbo

bossykate · 13/12/2007 11:55

yes, but don't you get shuddery and the thought of all that ... on a cloth?

LaCerbiatta · 13/12/2007 12:14

It's Lisbon's airport.... and there are no details on the internet. I'm sure about Dior, Chanel, Lancome, Estee Lauder, the more classic ones, don't remember what else is there. I think I'll go with the Estee Lauder one. Maybe have the Dior concealer and a Lancome tinted moisturiser in case he can't find it.

Ever since I started using muslin cloth with cleanser I've never looked back and I hate wipes too, I find they 'burn' my skin, specially around the eyes

also, the wipes dont make my skin feel 'clean'

i like to splash about with water and a foamy cleanser

tinted moisturiser for daytime, definitely.

pollyannainexcelsis · 13/12/2007 12:54

I really like the Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser. I have heard good things about the Bobbi Brown one and would like to try that.

I also like the Chanel mat lumiere foundation.

princessmel · 13/12/2007 13:02

I use tinted moiseriser in the summer and during the day in winter. Then I use foundation in evening in winter.

princessmel · 13/12/2007 13:03

Ok I can't spell moisturiser.

expatinscotland · 13/12/2007 13:05

If you can get away with a tinted moisturiser, then I'd go for that - well, it depends. I've usually only worked in formal offices, particularly law firms and legal units. In these types of workplaces, I'd say foundation all the way.

But for weekends and around the house, tinted moisturiser.

I love the Laura Mercier one.

LaCerbiatta · 13/12/2007 13:08

cod, is this the lancome one you use?

hi expat

i know what you mean about foundation being more formal. i cnat figure out why that should be though

HarkTheHassledAngelsSing · 13/12/2007 13:13

The Bobbi Brown tinted moisturiser (although they call it a "balm") is fantastic - high SPF factor, leaves your skin dewy, evens things out without feeling caked - I love the stuff. I then bought some BB foundation and was a bit disappointed - all a bit too shiny.

expatinscotland · 13/12/2007 13:15

I can't, either, naily. But I did experiment when I was working in the legal department of a big financial company, back when I had pretty clear skin.

I wore tinted moisturiser into work - but kept the other makeup the same.

Hmm. Yeah, it just didn't look right.

Maybe it's the lighting in those offices, though.

Maybe it's the dress code in these places, too.

expatinscotland · 13/12/2007 13:16

Have you tried the oil-free BB foundation, hark?

Very nice!

prettybird · 13/12/2007 13:34

I use Imanance Tinted moisutriser from Lancome which I really like (don't see it on that link, so maybe they've stopped doingit - just shows how long it lasts! )

I've also used Estee Lauder Daywear Tinted moisturiser in the past and also really liked it. It depends on who is doing the best offer at the time I need some more

I may try the Bobbi Brown next time after the recommendations here.

I have never felt theneed to wear foundation, even working in formal offices (and I like dressing formally too). I'm 40+ now , but actually think the fact that I don't wear foundation helps me to look younger. I have however always been blessed with a very good skin - and I am grateful for that!

orangina · 13/12/2007 13:41

Me too, love the laura mercier tinted moisturiser.... also got talked into buying the moisturising primer which is nice, though have no idea if it DOES anything in particular....
