Trousers for when dress code is no denim

I've reached a stage in my life when I'm not prepared to be uncomfortable for anyone. I also refuse to buy outfits I'll only wear once.

For nice but casual, I have a really good pair of wide leg jeans, that fit beautifully on the hips, a selection of floaty and fitted tops and either sparkly (ish) trainers or boots.

I have a do to go to where it's no denim. Most will wear a LBD or similar, but I'm not doing that. I'd like to find a really good pair of "special" trousers. Maybe satin?

What do you think? Can you help me find them?

Some people might wear wet-leather-look leggings? Though I don't particularly like them!

What about some velvet trousers or corduroy culottes?

These guys do great floaty, fun trousers! I would love some but they’re too long for me.

Love that site! Have you ordered from there? Are they any good?

What about a sequin jogger?

Strong option.

Lots of different shapes of velvet trousers on the Benetton website gb.benetton.com/chinos-in-velvet-with-stretch-waist-black-4HA2556K4_100.html

I have a pair of these silk wide legged trousers
www.grana.com/womens-silk-wide-leg-racer-pants?color=383
They do ship but aren't UK based so if you don't want shipping I'm sure you can find similar in UK.
They are super comfy but skim bumps and look 'dressed up'. I've worn them with tee shirts and I've worn them with a silk camisole so it's more like a jumpsuit, they also work with trainers or heels.

@1990s no I haven’t… yet. But I emailed them about the length of the length of the trousers and the customer service team was great!

I love these! Probably worth shelling out to get them shortened.

I second a good velvet trouser. Will be a wardrobe staple every winter.

Spiceup · 09/11/2021 19:53

There certainly seem to be a lot of velvet trousers around, but I can't shake the image of the velour leisure suits of a decade or two back.

Tesco have some really nice velvet trousers which I bought the other day. They have a choice of waistline, either elastic, or fitted. Under £15.
A new line apparently. Go look at them.

Satin combats would be my choice, in a colour. Clearly not workwear, but simultaneously slouchy, casual and dressy. With a cashmere jersey to dress down or a simple but close-fitted sequinned top for cocktail glamour. Me&Em are good place to start, but at about £170, you'd need to know you'd get value from them (or I would).
