Hunters Wellies

Thinking of asking for a pair of these for Christmas.
Recently got a dog and we're down the beach most days.

Wondering about sizing...do they come up big or small?
I'm a 5.5 shoe.

And so people think they're worth it? Very spends price so I'm hoping the quality is good.

I love my Hunters. Had them years and they are still watertight and lasted really well. With a clean they still look shiny and brand new.

Sizing pretty much true to size. Not sure if they do half sizes or not but if you’re going to be wearing thick socks I’d go for the 6.

ForkedIt · 07/11/2021 15:20

They used to be excellent quality but production moved away from the UK and standards fell.
My current pair are 15 years old and on their last legs and I (sadly) won’t be replacing them when they die. Not sure what I’ll replace them with though.

glitterelf · 07/11/2021 15:20

I love my hunter wellies however we got a dog last year and I found my hunters whilst great for the rain and the mud they just weren't comfy or warm enough for the longer walks so I bought some Dublin river boots and highly recommend them Smile

PaddingtonStareBare · 07/11/2021 15:21

They used to be excellent but they fall apart quickly now :(

HappyGirlNow · 07/11/2021 15:22

They’re pretty true to size so I’d def go up a size if I were you.

Mine don’t keep my feet warm at all in winter, my feet were freezing last winter. I just ditched mine for neoprene Muck Boots and they’re so cosy!

So whatever you go for I’d suggest the Neoprene version, believe Hunters do them too..

Ditto. I'm thinking of replacing with Le Chameau or Aigle. Hoping to squeeze one or two more years out of my Hunters though.
toastfiend · 07/11/2021 15:25

They used to be good. These days they fall apart and you'd be better off getting some own brand/Dickies ones from a country store, which will be much cheaper.

I have Aigle Parcours ISO 2, which, based on personal experience I'd heartily recommend. They're pretty spendy but super warm and I walk miles and miles in them very comfortably. I know some people have problems with them developing splits, though, but I've not had a problem and I've had mine for a few years of daily wear in the winter, walked miles in them and mucked out lots of stables and they're still good as new.

Asdf12345 · 07/11/2021 15:25

The new ones are awful quality. Aigle or lechameau are the only options left for well made wellies with manufacturers who stand by them if you have any issues.

toastfiend · 07/11/2021 15:25

Also agree that Hunters don't keep your feet warm, which is a big deal for me in the winter, nothing more miserable than cold toes!

MrsKDB · 07/11/2021 15:43

I’d get le chameau instead

countrygirl99 · 07/11/2021 15:58

Very much fasion wellies these days. My first pair lasted 12 years and they were seconds. I gave up with them after the next 2 pairs lasted a few months.

AreYouRightThereSkippy · 07/11/2021 16:00

I heard they'd gone a bit downhill.

I've heard Le Chameau are good? Or Dublin.

HildegardeCrowe · 07/11/2021 16:01

I’ve had two pairs and they both fell apart within a year. Total waste of money and I buy mine from Sainsbury’s now for less than a tenner. I’m a dog walker too.

nannybeach · 07/11/2021 16:03

I'm just over 5 ft a size 10, borrowed my daughter's Hunters, had a job getting them on,both of us size 5. But everyone is correct, they are rubbish these days

alpinia · 07/11/2021 16:04

Used to be great, now totally rubbish. Look at Le Chameau or Aigle instead. Second the neoprene lining for winter walks. I have the Le Chameau ones and they are amazing.

BaconAndAvocado · 07/11/2021 16:04

Thanks all. That's good to know before DH splurged on a pair!!
Thinking of going down the waterproof walking boot Avenue instead.

Any recommendations please?
Don't want to spend over £100.

I wear Muck Boots for dog walking in winter. Very warm and much more comfortable than standard wellies

idontlikealdi · 07/11/2021 16:08

Mine fell apart pretty quickly, weren't warm enough or comfy enough for long god walks. I now wear waterproof hiking boots or dms dependent on the weather.

potoforchids · 07/11/2021 16:39

I love mine, had them 9 years. I take my normal size.
