Twin Skin, depressed, skin hang over. Pictures for reference

Hi ladies,

Anyone here had twins and suffered from severe skin damage. Im not talking just stretch marks, I mean so much lose skin it hangs down past my belly button.

Bit of background, Ive always generally been quite slim. I didnt have a single stretvh mark after my first pregnancy but my second twin pregnancy has changed my tummy beyond belief. I feel uncomfortable around my husband and wont let him see my tummy. I was 9st 6Ib before conceiving the twins and was 11st 4IB at point of birth. (Twins eighed about 5.5Ib each) About a month post partum I was back down to 10 stone and now 10 months PP im back to my usual weight.

I feel so alone in this, Ive googled to see if anyone has the same thing but no one has it as severely as I seem to have it. I would never change a thing as it brought me my beautiful boys but it just gets me down some days. Ive shown it to friends who say nice things but I can see they look horrified at the same time.

Pictures attached, during pregnancy , 12 weeks PP and 10 months PP. (last picture is lying down and doesnt show the full extent).... cant bring myself to photograph it just now.

PS I realise im probably being over dramatic and need a good slap but I cant help how i feel.

Maybe dermarolling?

I had this after my DTs. I was very slim and put on over 3 stone.

I ended up having a tummy tuck. It was expensive and painful but worth it. I felt the loose skin looked awful but it was also so flappy that it was uncomfortable, it used to get stuck in my trouser zips unless I moved it out of the way.

You’re not alone, I know it feels like it but you’re not Flowers

Theuniverseandeverything · 06/11/2021 09:12

I would ask your gp about that and maybe they could refer you for a consultation with a surgeon? I don’t know anything about tummy tucks but I don’t think you can improve stretch marks or loose skin with moisturisers or anything natural.

Of course if you are not up for that and it is a drastic solution, you would have to learn to live with it. I don’t think it would show in clothes and I’m sure you still look lovely.

Thanks ladies, glad to know im not alone. I was considering saving for a tummy tuck but wasn't sure if the scarring would make it look worse, will certainly think more about taking that route.

Yes, I've been dermarolling since having them and use vitamin C serum, I also applied bio oil every day when carrying them and PP. I eat well and excericse regularly but Not seeming to have much effect on the appearance.

Also just to mention I can pinch the skin hard using my nails and have no feeling at all, the nerves are completely dead it seems.

I also had a tummy tuck. I didn't have twins but I had one big baby that left my muscles badly separated and a bit of loose skin despite being slim, eating well and exercising plenty.
I'm really happy with my results. I have a scar but it's in my knickers, so I can wear a bikini. I'm also so much stronger in my core.

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 06/11/2021 20:47

I put on 4 stone, just the one baby, but he was huge . As was I . I did not have a tuck, as it’s major surgery (too scared)

It got a lot better over the years, actually having a little bit more fat on my tummy made it look less severe iyswim

If that's Bubz, although it did improve hugely for her, I believe she did go on to have an abdominoplasty.

Did you have a section? I was left with some permanent numbness right around the scar, but the rest of the sensation came back over time - and, going by how slim you were when pregnant, perhaps you've got an element of separated abdominal muscles - whatever anybody tells you, they can join back together quickly or they can do it almost by magic years later (mine did!).

I do think that you will still see significant improvement over time, as I did with my giant 2nd child who weighed nearly as much as two of your babies - but please, don't be embarrassed by your beautiful body that has done the amazing thing of making three incredible children.

No you are not alone. I have stretch marks inside my belly button. The skin is damaged and needs looking after.

Mine got less bad when I started doing ballet, contemporary dance and pilates about 10 years later. My belly button came back. Grin

It also looked a bit better with some fat under the skin.

However, I look shite in bikinis and tarty underwear. I wear cotton vests.

Interrobanger · 06/11/2021 21:04

I’m the same weight as you and my stomach is exactly the same after two pregnancies. First baby was over 10lbs and second baby was 9.5lbs. Plus I have a lovely c section overhang.

My skin also has no feeling if I pinch it. To be honest I don’t find that it bothers me all that much. I do look at old photos of my flat stomach and feel a bit wistful that I’ll never wear a bikini again.

But most of the time I don’t really care.

I’ve done diets and yoga and exercise and Pilates and all that stuff over the years but i think honestly the only answer is a tummy tuck. Personally the cost and the shirt term impact on my health wouldn’t be worth it. But I can tell this is really distressing for you, so maybe it would be worthwhile doing?

MuchTooTired · 06/11/2021 21:37

You’re not alone. Your stomach looks pretty damn good compared to mine, and my DTs are 3.5 now (plus they’re my only kids!). I describe my stomach skin as elastic that’s old, knackered and has lost its elastic - it’s never coming back. I also have an incredibly attractive massive overhang. Blush It is slightly less paper thin than it was though.

I found it terribly depressing, and was quite revolted by my body and the loss of my ‘pretty’ that I had before I had my kids. I still detest the overhang being touched by my dh, but in trying to be body positive in front of the kids, I’ve started to believe it myself! I’m no model, I’m an odd shape very overweight with zero fashion sense or style, but for the first time in my life I don’t give a fuck and my self confidence is the highest it’s probably ever been which I find weird when I think of it.

I have a soft squidgy tummy that is perfect for blowing raspberries on, chasing my DTs pretending it’s a squishy monster and it jiggles like jelly which makes them laugh.

I do joke that once they’re grown I’ll get a full body lift/tuck and I’ll be a 50 year old with the body of a 20 year old, but I don’t know if I’ll ever have the guts to do it!

I hope you are able to find a way to make peace with it though, or a way to make it different in time. You’re a badass who made two babies at once 💐

USaYwHatNow · 06/11/2021 21:45

My mum had a tummy tuck when I was 18 middle sibling was 15 and youngest sibling was 8. She dieted, did toning exercise but nothing shifted the overhang so she saved up for a tummy tuck. My dad, bless him, supported her and they saved up for her to have a tummy tuck. Took her a few years mind but she had it done lost a few more stone and now does pilates to keep her core strong.

The op was a hip to hip incision and she now has a silvery scar, much like a long stretch mark, which she religiously smothered in bio oil. She does have some skin that is still quite dead, with no sensation, but tbh with skin that has been stretched that far and then cut and moved into a different position I'm not surprised. That likely won't come back even if you have a tummy tuck.

The difference in her self confidence was massive, and she's in her late 50's, ten years post tummy tuck and still rocks a bikini 😂

stairway · 06/11/2021 21:45

Your tummy looks fine to me, however I do sympathise as I hate mine too! The stretch marks do get better over time though.

I came across your thread after searching on this issue, as I have exactly the same as you - I wanted you to know you’re not alone. I unfortunately don’t have any solution, but I’m hoping that over time, it improves, as I personally don’t want to opt for surgery.
