What make up products should I buy as a gift for my 13 year DD?

To start with I should say I'm a cleanse, tone, moisturiser, light foundation, powder, mascara and go sort of person (aka pretty clueless where make up is concerned).

My daughter has had lip glosses and eye shadows, from places like Claire's, to play with in the past. She's starting to show an interest in learning how to apply make up but not feeling sure where to start.

There are a couple of local make up artists who offer lessons - as it's her birthday soon I was thinking about buying her some products and a lesson or 2.

I'm hoping you lovely people will be able to recommend some reasonably priced products and brands that will get her started and that she will enjoy using.

Plus, if you've had any experience of helping a teenager develop their skills and style please share.

Thank you

My 14 year old DD always seems happy with MUA and Revolution palettes from Superdrug, however for the budget conscious Primark gives a lot of bang for one’s buck too! For standalone items Collection or Boots Naturals also good for younger teens IMO.

Body Shop. It’s a good price, you can buy the proper brushes to go with it and it’s unlikely to give her an allergic reaction. My teen loves it

I'd get her some colourpop palettes and maybe some nice bits from NYX.

Urban Outfitters has a lot of Barry M reduced and free delivery with no minimum spend at the moment.

Coffee4Queen · 05/11/2021 13:54

e.l.f. cosmetics. You can get them from Boots or Superdrug.

Revolution is great from Superdrug. Morphe have nice palettes and are 50% off online just now

I don’t use beauty products myself, but one of my DS is ultra-feminine. I introduced her to PHB Ethical Beauty. They are actually a U.K. family business and all makeup is organic vegan and cruelty free. It’s never too early to teach them about ethical consumption.

*DDs I missed out a d, not DS, DD.

Revolution from Superdrug and Morphe palettes are very popular with teens. Loads of YouTube videos to practice with will keep her occupied for hours. Also you'll need a set of brushes and eye shadow remover like Nivea double effects, garnier micellar water and cotton rounds abs Cerave SA face wash and lots of flannels to wash face daily with a fresh one

Thank you - I shall go and have a look at your suggestions. Going shopping for the 1st time in ages this weekend too so will be sure to check them out in 'real life'.

I've just bought her a make up technique book that I think she'll like.

Real techniques brushes are good and don't shed. This is good value www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0814747R8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_T1ADAQ00TJTE1XEG2YQ5?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
