I have tried waxing and inevitably end up with horrible cold sores. I am not sure what other option is other than shaving?

Have you tried threading?

Whataday21 · 05/11/2021 12:06

Cream, but moisturise before.

JumperandJacket · 05/11/2021 12:19

Threading

Bbnell · 05/11/2021 12:40

I haven’t tried threading before. This needs to be done professionally? I have one of those spring things but I havent got on too well with it. It’s very sore I find and think it is also likely to give me cold sores as it’s is damaging the skin every time a hair is pulled out. It’s this skin trauma that appears to cause the cold sores

If it’s blonde why not leave it? Unless it’s a full handlebar…

RedHot22 · 05/11/2021 12:42

Ah ok.

I get on brilliantly with the cheapo spring.
Little and often, a few mins a day is best

SirenSays · 05/11/2021 12:42

Could you try a sugar paste instead of wax. I find it's much gentler on my skin as it only really sticks to hair. I've never tried it on my face though so I'm not sure.

Bbnell · 05/11/2021 12:43

I see people looking at it. I have a friend who also has blonde hair in upper lip and I find myself looking at it. I think even blonde is noticeable. My 9 year old has also pointed it out 🤦‍♀️

It does annoy me that society expects us to be hair free and I wish it wasn’t the case. I am not really super vain at all, but I feel the need to conform to be moustache free !

Slightly tangential but have you tried light treatment for the cold sores? Mine haven’t come back since using it 9 years ago. I can’t remember the name of the product, but it’s a Boots thing that looks like a thermometer, and goes over the sore and beams a particular wave of light at it. I’d had them since childhood a couple of times a year and it’s such a relief not to get them now.

Bbnell · 05/11/2021 13:48

I have heard of the light treatment but never used it. Does it treat the sore? Is it expensive to buy?

Can you have laser hair removal? I know on blonde it didn't used to be completely effective but could be worth investigating?

Bbnell · 05/11/2021 13:51

I would like laser hair removal but I do t think I have the right hair / skin type for it ?

Threading will remove the hair, but when I had my very sparse growth done by an over enthusiastic eyebrow threader, I ended up with a lovely moustache of spots. So I think it's the plucking that maybe sets your skin off. And Maybe some sort of shaver? Unless the light treatment works on stopping the cold sores.

Bbnell · 05/11/2021 14:41

Yes the finishing touch flawless I think is probably best suited for me. I just worry about getting stubble?

OP posts:
LiveForeverHappily · 05/11/2021 14:41

I’ve use the Philips Precision Perfect Trimmer. It takes seconds.

SoLongFurlough · 05/11/2021 17:31

Another vote for the flawless & I can vouch for no stubble

Sportsnight · 05/11/2021 18:20

When I bought the light treatment I think it was £40 which seemed extremely expensive compared to Zovirax and all, but the fact it worked so well made me a bit evangelical about it.

CampagVelocet · 05/11/2021 18:22

Just shave it. Honestly. Game changer.

This. Anything that pulls the hair out (waxing, springy thing, epilator) brings me out in irritated spots. As for the ridiculous myth that you can’t see it if it’s blonde - bet it was started by the makers of facial hair bleach.
Saltpepperbutter · 05/11/2021 22:05

I have very light blonde facial hair which is definitely not invisible in the moustache area. I tried lots of things which left me with sore red patches but one day shaved it, on a whim, and have never gone back. Takes a moment, smooth skin, no irritation.
