Anyone got them? I have seen a pair i love

( wilderness i think) but they are £££££££. Are they worth it?

I have a pair of the Celtic & Co Woodsman boots, so not quite the same model, but similar.

I don't know if i was just unlucky (it's beyond me why the ratings are so high if I wasn't), but they would be lovely in today's frosty dry weather. Absolutely sodding useless in the wet though, despite being treated thoroughly with protector spray before I ever wore them out. Leaked like sieves.

When I complained, I was told they never say they're waterproof ... Angry

Whitney168 · 05/11/2021 11:21

(That was just pavement walking too, by the way, not hiking in them. Glad I never got as far as trying that ...)

IsleofRum · 05/11/2021 11:24

I'm guessing this is something different to Glasgow Celtic football team 🤭?

SusannaRowan · 05/11/2021 11:24

No imo. Although they might have improved since then. I bought their Aqualamb boots years ago, was a sheepskin boot wearer long before they became fashionable, they were a hugely expensive purchase for me at the time, I was really swayed by the company ethics. The soles wore really quickly, and they are the only sheepskin boots that holed on the back heel. They weren't even vaguely water repellent, but that I could have lived with. DH has a pair that are a good few years old, they have faired OK, but they are only ever worn indoors.
I've had Emu boots that have lasted far far better, for far less money (and I bought them in TKMaxx!). In fact I have a pair of Billabongs that I wore for years and they were very cheap at the time.

Ooh I've got my eyes on the Wilds boots which are a shorter version of the Wilderness so would be interested too... They are leather so should be reasonably hardy I would have thought?

The Woodsman ones are suede so I would have assumed they'd be a bit crap in the wet, I love suede shoes but they're not very practical!

thenightsky · 05/11/2021 11:28

Glad I saw this thread. celtic boots keep popping up ads on here and they look really nice, but I would need them to be totally waterproof (walking dogs in long wet grass and rain).

malificent7 · 05/11/2021 11:33

The timberland ones look good too...knee high, lace up but have no side zip. They are waterproof though.

They really were very thoroughly treated, but it was more the seams that let the water in, just walking on wet pavements. I have certainly bought other pairs of suede boots - at a fraction of the price! - that were perfectly able to be worn on a wet day once they'd been treated and they weren't marketed as country type boots.

I have two pairs of M&S suede boots (not sheepskin), they are in their second winter and are fine outdoors. Probably wouldn't cope with a torrential downpour, but a bit of normal rain and wet pavements soaks into the suede, but doesn't actually get as far as my feet. I haven't treated them.
Actually love M&S boots, never know why their boots selection is so much better than their shoe selection!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 05/11/2021 13:59

My Celtic and co boots ended up being worn as (very expensive) house boots in the winter, useless outside.

Usuallyhappycamper · 05/11/2021 21:02

I have a black pair and I like them. I did buy because I wanted Victorian type lace up boots though, not for hiking in. I probably haven't walked more than a couple of miles in them in one go. I would never spend that much on footwear, but I had an unwanted present I sold and found a £20 off voucher online.

RavingAnnie · 06/11/2021 00:35

I've returned everything I've tried to buy from there (multiple items) as the quality is never good enough (scratches, uneven seams etc etc). I've stopped ordering now.

Sooverthemill · 06/11/2021 07:41

I think @oubliettebravo has a pair she often wears on the what are we wearing daily thread.

AliceAldridge · 06/11/2021 11:51

Glad I saw this thread as Facebook really thinks I need something from there and I have almost caved several times. The £££ price put me off though.

What waterproof boots are good then? I was thinking DMs but not sure I am trendy enough. I need waterproof school run/dog walking boots. Preferably with a zip.

DMs take some hellish breaking in, and DD's are no way near the quality of my older ones, especially for the ridiculous price.
I wear Merrell gore-tex or Aigle for hiking in the rain. But no zips and very functional, they are in no way attractive.

HereticFanjo · 06/11/2021 22:01

I was not impressed with my pair and sent them back.

cloudrunner · 09/11/2021 05:41

Have you tried Legero boots? Austrian, so made for snow/rain etc. I bought a sheepskin-lined pair in a freezing Prague winter when my toes were falling off and nothing has matched them; they've survived years of muddy country walks. And all boots I've subsequently bought from them are incredibly comfortable. Here's a link to a small selection www.simplyfeet.co.uk/brands/legero.html - I like the soft boots this year
