Milia / whiteheads on face

I’ve got what I think is milia on my face. Four have appeared over the last week on my cheeks. They are like pin pricks that are like a bright white tipex. Does anyone know what these may be, and what I can do to get rid of them?

I had these on my cheeks and I think it is wearing a mask causes them. It helped when I stopped using any moisturizer at all on my face. After a few weeks of just cleansing and toning they disappeared. Worth a try. Good luck.

Thanks. I haven’t actually been wearing a mask much over the last month or so as I do all my shopping online now. But maybe I’ll stop wearing moisturiser for a while. I’ve started wearing a tinted moisturiser instead of foundation, so I wonder if it’s that which is causing it?

I’ve never used a toner. Can you recommend a gentle one?

Hi, OP

Whiteheads aren't quite the same thing as milia. Whiteheads are basically a closed comedone. Can you post a picture?

I have this issue too and I have found Paula's choice bha 2% really useful!

I've attached a photo, sorry it's a bit blurry

I'm getting a milia removed by a dermatologist tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi! I don't think they're whiteheads, they look like milia to me.

Have a look at this

Thanks for this. Maybe I'll try the Paula's Choice as a first step.

Flagg - hope the dermatologist goes ok. Do you mind me asking how much it cost?

I had some brand new smaller ones appear on my face a couple of weeks ago, so I stopped using moisturiser and I exfoliated my face (with a normal Clarins exfoliator) and they disappeared.

I'm having just the 1 removed tomorrow and it's £35 at a local dermatologist.

Apparently it's very easy, they just don't recommend you do it at home so you don't mess it up and scar/infect yourself. They're going to use a tiny scalpel, slice a thin flap, and pull out the little white ball of keratin/calcium.

I'm a bit nervous because I'm quite heavily tattooed but HATE anything involving scalpels, so I might faint 😂 I can hack 8 hours of scratchy tattoo needles, but not a scalpel.

If you have a steady hand, you can remove yourself with a sterilised pin at home, make a tiny hole and squeeze out. Not recommended though, obviously.

I get them under my eyes particularly.

My beauty therapist recommended gently exfoliating and moisturising. Seems to work although it's not instant.

I use the Dermalogica daily microfoliant anyway which is perfectly gentle around my eyes and it does the trick.

MrsColon · 10/11/2021 19:53

I get them v occasionally, I use a sterilised scalpel to cut a very tiny slit just underneath and then use a comedone extractor. Super easy.

Go on YouTube and search milia removal.

Just had mine removed. It took about 10 minutes and was deeper than she expected. It didn't pop out in 1 piece, it was several little hard pieces.

Tiny red mark where it was, which should disappear in a couple days. She used antiseptic and aloe once she'd removed it.

Didn't really hurt, just felt like she was lightly hooking the skin with a tiny needle.
