Glasses

I've purchased a pair of glasses from Glasses Direct, they're all good, apart from a bit tight, the arms need to be widened. I can send them back to be adjusted, but someone asked me can't I pop into Specsavers, would they do the adjustment & would they charge? Has anyone done this with glasses that they haven't purchased from there? I have got glasses from SS before and do usually go there.

They will say they won’t be held responsible if they accidentally break them so could decline to do it. I’m sure our local one wouldn’t do mine once because they weren’t from there. It’s worth an ask though, it’s very hard to fit glasses without having the person in front of you so you could end up sending them back and forth to GD for weeks!

If SS don’t do it, ask a small independent.

Any optician will adjust your glasses. They will make a comment about not being responsible if they break them but they will do it - I'm fussy about my glasses and must have been in random opticians hundreds of times.

It’s just a matter of adjusting the tiny screws on the arms. My DH does ours using a set of very small screwdrivers so if you know anyone with similar tiny screwdrivers, often people handy at DIY or do crafts, they could do it while you keep trying them till they feel right.

There’s more to adjusting glasses than just the screws on the arms. Often they need to be heated up and bent to fit better. Most opticians will do this but won’t be responsible if the frame breaks. Heating up inexpensive frames is a bit of a gamble as they tend to be made of much softer plastics and are a lot easier to accidentally heat too much and damage.
