Hello
My Daughter has just had her first baby, she has to stay in hospital for a week and has sent me a plea to find her some nursing nightdresses tomorrow.

I’m struggling, nothing in Next online. Any suggestions on alternatives, do button up nightshirts work?

We have very few shops here, I can look in Matalan, the supermarkets, I don’t think new look do any in store.

Just had a thought, I’ll look at Amazon, see if I can get a delivery tomorrow, but if you have an alternative suggestions I would be grateful.

On another note, feeling sad, our baby is already 3 days old and I can’t see her a our hosp still has strict covid rules .

Thank you

Button down nightshirt was my preferance. Just make sure it's long enough to cover her bum so she doesn't have to worry when getting out of bed! Congratulations x

The only issue with button up nightdresses is that you are pretty exposed when it’s open as there is nothing to cover the top of the boob/shoulder especially if you’re not wearing a nursing bra too. It’s possible a baggy T-shirt that can just be lifted up would be better, I certainly preferred it with DD2, having had nothing but button down things with dd1.

But there’s always jojo if the budget will stretch to it, not sure if the delivery is quick enough though!

Mine is from Asda. The only ones I can see online from Asda are here:

But the ones I got in store were a bit better.

Does she definitely want a nightie? They are harder to come by than just nursing pyjamas.

I got mine from H&M, Matalan and Bon Marche. Only H&M we’re actual maternity wear, the rest were just oversized.

Littleguggi · 01/11/2021 22:04

Any type of pj worked for me, button ones or just normal t-shirt type ones that could be lifted up and tucked into my bra strap. I'd say a nursing bra is more important to hold in the breast pads especially in the early days of breastfeeding! Congratulations btw!

Littleguggi · 01/11/2021 22:06

If you're can't get any 'nightwear' especially as you are limited to local shops or supermarkets, just some buttoned vests/ tees or oversized tees will work!

Bit pricey, but really lovely - yawn nightdresses have buttons, so perfect for breastfeeding www.loveyawn.com/collections/nightshirts

I found La Redoute very good for these

SickAndTiredAgain · 01/11/2021 22:10

I had a couple from primark. Buttoned up the whole way, comfy, cheap.
H&M also do nursing vests with built in support. I found these good because sleeping in a bra was uncomfortable but I needed something to hold breast pads in, as I leaked a fair bit.

Boohoo and Missguided both have them...just fine the exact same thing for my DD!

*done

Firsttimenannie · 01/11/2021 22:28

She is really cold in there, I’ll go to primark tomorrow to see if I can get her something
Thank you.

I’ll have a look on there. Just ordered a pack of 2 from Amazon prime. Hopefully they arrive tomorrow. I’ll look to see if there is something a bit nicer for her to have when she comes home. Thank you everyone, I haven’t quite got the hang of how to reply. (Omg I sound like an old nanny 😂)

Pricey but I've absolutely lived in mine since having DD 4.5months ago - i got the matching nightie / dressing gown set www.seraphine.com/en-gb/maternity-clothes/maternity-pyjamas-nightwear/

Sunshinegirl82 · 01/11/2021 22:32

Another option OP is nursing vests with big traditional button up pyjamas/nightdress over the top. Then you can just unbutton and undo the vest.

Yeah this is what I did and it worked well. Nice and warm, and meant when I was feeding from one side, the other breast had a breast pad held in place.
Sunshinegirl82 · 01/11/2021 22:41

The other bonus is that nursing vests and big pyjamas are more easily available on the high street so quicker to get hold of.

If you have a Jojo within striking distance they will sell the vests. Also, sounds silly but if she is really chilly I found those really oversized cardigans were good as didn't get in the way!

These are rather lovely and the reductions in the sale make them good value. Everything’s £19.99.
