So I’m left with my grey, my darker roots and an orangey colour.

I stupidly died my hair too dark earlier this year.

My natural hair colour was a lovely warm brown and I want to get back to that. Not too dark again, it’s so draining.

I have to use a box dye, any advice on what colour to use please?

Those greys are so thick and wirey! Sad

I always find with box dyes is to buy a lighter colour than you want.
I also made the mistake of going too dark once when I bought a medium brown.
I sorted that and bought a light one and it went a nice colour medium brown.
I can't remember the name as was before Covid times though sorry.

Yep it’s worked well. My hair was almost black. it was the extra strength one.

It’s a little darker on the ends (sorry for another shit photo!) so I’m wondering if I should repeat it? Such a ballache though, the rinsing takes ages!

It’s left my hair really dry though, as you can probably see.

If you can bear it I’d leave it a few days. Every time I’ve used it it starts off orange but slowly some of the colour comes back and it goes brown. I think you’re meant to use a dye that washes out in 6 washes after colour b4 if you do dye it. And go for an ash colour that’s lighter than what you actually want.

I’m in no hurry. I’ve been walking around looking like a badger for months now, white temples with the rest almost black 😂

I am seriously debating doing another round of colour b4 to get the ends as light as the middle before I dye.

I did this a few years ago. I left it a day and coloured it with Casting Semi Permanent in a much lighter shade, as the colour comes up dark after remover. Pretty sure I used Rich Honey Blonde and it came out a mid chestnut brown.

Siriisatwat · 02/11/2021 07:45

And I’ve woken up with MUCH darker hair 🤦🏽‍♀️

I give up, I really do. I just want nice hair!!

It took me 4 months to save up £30 to do this (factored in 2x colour b4 and possibly 2 packs of dye), so there’s no way on earth I’ll ever afford to get it done properly.

Think I’m doomed to have too dark hair.

Probably not much help, when I wanted too get colour I used head and shoulders, I know crushed vitamin c tablets can work as well.

Jackthementalkitten · 05/11/2021 19:39

out

Pumpkinsonparade · 05/11/2021 19:42

I can recommend wearing a hat op
. Been a couple of weeks since my disaster..
Currently sat with Head And Shoulders marinading in my hair...

RaisedByPangolins · 05/11/2021 19:44

Yeah I’ve had that happen too - you think it worked and then the next day it’s back to black! Not sure what the solution is without totally wrecking your hair as the colour b4 stuff really dries it out doesn’t it. Flowers

Siriisatwat · 05/11/2021 19:51

I did it again and nothing. still as dark as ever.

I officially give up!

If you can bear it a bit longer, use a moisturising shampoo & conditioner (ideally intensive mask) and, for strength, 1 or 2 applications of Pureplex (it's an Olaplex dupe). For hair you're lifting colour out of... you want to hydrate and strengthen.

Make sure you shampoo a day or 2 after the Pureplex & before the colour B4.

Then 1 more colour b4... thats probably aa light as you'll get it at home.

Leave another week ideally, Then an ashy brown semi-permanent on any remaining yellow/ orangey bits to neutralise those.

Or...if theres a college near you that does hairdressing qualifications, that can be relatively inexpensive for 'colour correction'.
Good luck!

Siriisatwat · 05/11/2021 20:24

There is a local hairdressing college, I called when things started opening up but they were chock full after lockdowns.

I’ll give them another call next week and see what they charge.
