Long waterproof raincoat

Can anyone help? I‘m looking for a long (below the knee or mid calf) raincoat, something simple with no fleece or padding, in black/navy/dark brown or similar. I have quite a few warm layers, but need a longer waterproof one.

I need it for walking the dog! I‘m tired of being cold and wet.

Ideally something like the Seasalt Janelle but without the fleece. I‘ve seen a few but they are all sold out in my size (12/14 or M/L), like this:

www.arket.com/en_gbp/women/jackets-coats/product.arket-and-tretorn-women's-rain-coat-black.1006162001.html

Or this one:

hollandscountryclothing.co.uk/products/didriksons-nadja-long-waterproof-coat?variant=33018775896099&currency=GBP&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google+shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_fiLBhDOARIsAF4khR2kLQJfVCz6OSUNqLyjgfkKg6Xs6q6cSu2X68_fmCCZPymlso88Y80aAppOEALw_wcB

Any suggestions? Am I looking in the wrong season (hence everything sold out?). Thank you!!!

I was going to say the Janelle but I see you’ve ruled it out. FWIW I don’t think the fleece adds much extra warmth other than a little softness. Looks like Seasalt make at least three other similar coats without the fleece though? Pentewan, High Water or Near Shore?

TuftyRusty · 31/10/2021 19:52

Stutterheim or Rains? Both do classic rain coats, different lengths including longer lengths and a good variety of colours.

TuftyRusty · 31/10/2021 19:56

Rains one in black: www.uk.rains.com/products/longer-jacket-female

Stutterheim in Navy: stutterheim.com/eu/product/stockholm-long-navy/

They both have quite a few in neutral colours though!

I have this one it's really good!

I have a rains one and was out in a gale/lashing rain this morning, and stayed bone dry. Love it, waited for a sale, but so worth it.

dryroastcumin · 31/10/2021 20:24

I have this one. It’s excellent. www.rohan.co.uk/womens-travel-and-outdoor-waterproofs-ridge-jacket-long

mrsmoppp · 31/10/2021 20:32

I have a joules one that keeps me dry walking to work. It's quite breathable too

Lands End's Stadium Squall coat is similar to the Janelle but without the fleece.

Crap at links, but you need a Baleno Kensington.

Damn! That’s so annoying @missmoon - they have a few other long styles so hope you find one from there or from one of the other good options that works!

LadyEloise1 · 31/10/2021 23:57

Jack Murphy do long raincoats.

I have just bought the landsend coat mentioned above for the very same reason and I have hunted high and low for what I was after - warm not too warm so I can layer, not bulky, waterproof, below the knee, inside pocket and not ugly - thought it didn't exist but this is pretty near
Worn it twice now and its waterproof and I really like it , although the zip is on the other side to what I'm used to.
I would not have paid £175 for it or any coat but its reduced to £105 which I was happy with

Onynx · 01/11/2021 00:11

You need the Jack Murphy Malvern. Designed for all things equestrian it even has straps to tie the coat onto your legs in windy weather. Brilliant for dog walking and watching football matches in the winter!

I have a Protected Species Mac. Amazing quality and will last forever I reckon.

I bought this www.arket.com/en_gbp/women/jackets-coats/product.arket-and-tretorn-women%27s-rain-coat-black.1006162001.html. It’s very good.

I agree - the fleece on the Janelle just makes it a bit softer, I don't think it makes it very much warmer and I definitely wouldn't wear it over autumn and winter without a thick jumper underneath. In fact, I wish I had bought a size up for this extact reason!
missmoon · 01/11/2021 13:24

@Namechangeisgood I'm going to try to get to the local Seasalt shop tomorrow and try it on. I've had a Janelle in the past and found it quite warm, but perhaps the style has changed? The Pentawan looks closer to what I was hoping to find (no fleece, but has some padding).

Jack Murphy and Baleno look brilliant and exactly what I was looking for, although not 100% my style (which is more minimalist / simple black coat) However I'm desperate for something comfortable at this point. Will have a look online, thank you!!

@CaramelWaferAndTea Yes, I wanted to buy the Arket one, but was too slow and now it's sold out Sad

Many thanks for all the suggestions everyone, will keep looking and trying them on. I have wondered about waxed cotton coats (some are quite long), but I'm put off by the lack of hood and worry about how waterproof they might be? Do people wear a hat with their waxed coats (not sure I've seen anyone wearing one around here...).

The Lands' End coat looks great too, perfect length!

OP posts:
Imtoooldforallthis · 01/11/2021 13:33

This isn't exactly what you asked for as it is short but I thought I'd show you it as I have just bought it and really like it as it is totally waterproof but with ough a fleece lining, I'm only 5'2 so is a lot longer on me than the model.

missmoon · 01/11/2021 13:38

@Imtoooldforallthis That coat is really nice (I love it in the cream colour)! The one I have currently is almost exactly the same (in black), which is great in the spring and summer, but just a bit too short for me right now. It's very windy here when it rains I just get completely drenched and then cold.

Uniqlo have some waterproof coats. I have one that the water just rolls off. It's matt rather than shiny which I like.
