Project 333

I wondered if anyone had done project 333 or similar?

Essentially you cut your wardrobe down to 33 items and wear only them for 3 months

I'm tempted by the simplicity of having less choice, and making more interesting options from my existing clothes. But worried about it practically, as our house is freezing and I wear many layers, and it would have to cover work, festive parties, casual, outdoor activities.

I thought perhaps I might do 20 clothing items for 1 month as a toe in the water. Has anyone got any advice or a similar but less challenging project?

I've done this. 33 items is actually quite a lot when you get into it!
You don't have to count pjs, gym clothes etc. Some people don't count "event" clothes (eg black tie stuff you only wear occasionally).

Why don't you look at sorting your wardrobe into outfits that all work together, bags/accessories/shoes that go with everything & see how you get on? You can always swap things if you find you're not wearing them much.

I did it for a bit. I hung the 33 items in one wardrobe but kept my other clothes accessible in drawers/the other wardrobe. Then if I needed to I could swap items between the two categories. This made sense partly because of weather (if you started in September you’d still want summer clothes but by November it would be very different weather )

Currently I’m using the Stylebook app to track my wardrobe and I’ve found this far more useful. The stats that show cost per wear and most/least frequently worn items have been a real eye opener. My shopping is now way more considered - I know how much stuff I’ve already got and the type of item that is worth spending money on. I’ve also had some fun putting outfits together for items I rarely wear

I keep things simple by only wearing one drawer full of clothes at any one time. Excluding the underwear drawer, that's extra. I have drawers for each season.

I'm doing my first season of this right now. I love it - everything is hanging in one wardrobe and is lovely and tidy and I can see exactly what I have.

You don't count lounge wear only worn at home or underwear, so for me that covers the thermal tops and the fleecy sweatpants I wear for wfh once it gets really cold.

I don't have much call for fancy occassion wear, so haven't included that - if I get invited somewhere fancy I will wear something fancy without worrying that I've broken the rules.

I haven't included hats/gloves/scarves either because for me it has to be properly sub zero to wear these things. It's perfectly possible I'll get through my Oct/Nov/Dec season without wearing them at all. If we do get a cold snap I'll wear them - it's an interesting challenge not a punishment.

I also use Stylebook to list my 33 items and to track number of wears. I'm only a month in and already I know I'll never go back to my random shopping ways. If anything I feel like I was probably wearing less than 33 items of my huge wardrobe, so this feels like more choice.
