Something sophisticated, long lasting, but young.
I need to try something new.
No preferences other than the above.

Chanel Allure

Penhaligons “Halfeti” is a favourite of mine. I think they do a selection of five or six testers for £25.

I really recommend sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely. It's cheap but it's excellent and stands up against more expensive fragrances for me.
It gets likened to narciso for her which was already recommended.
It's a crisp, dry but sweet, white floral musk.
I find it sophisticated 😎

Coco Noir is absolutely beautiful

Another vote for Chanel Allure

I love perfume and have a lot of it, but for the combination of long lasting, sophisticated and not too "old lady", I'd recommend Chanel every single time. Their scents have a grown up vibe that's hard to beat, but won't make you feel like you're playing dress up in your mother's wardrobe!
A few of my faves:
Chanel no 5 l Eau de Premiere - a younger, slightly lighter version of the classic, not as strong and very easy to wear. I wear this year round, excellent for the office.
Chanel Coco - warm and sexy and long lasting
Chanel Coromandel - expensive, better suited for colder months I think. Creamy, Amber and white chocolate and lasts forever. One of my absolute favourites.
Chanel Mademoiselle- lighter and fresher than the others

You could also look at Gris by Dior (smells expensive and reminds me of very high end clothes stores), grown up but not overpowering.

Hermes 24 Fauborg? Floral yet warm and lasts for ages.

noblegreenk · 30/10/2021 11:48

I was given some Jimmy Choo Illicit as a gift last year. I'm quite picky with fragrances and this is lovely. It's a warm spicy floral and lasts ages on me. It also has good projection and I've had many compliments on it. I recently bought a new 60ml bottle as it was on offer for £25 in Savers. They sell it in Boots for £45, so I was very pleased with my bargain.

I love the Zara ones x

I use Zara apple blossom as body spray. It's gorgeous but very light. Doesn't last.

How about Liz Earle no 20?

If you wanted to venture out of the famous names comfort zone, get a set of samples from Gallivant. They are deliberately non-binary but I have liked most of them: all are named after cities. Naples is the newest (and I'm tempted for spring, Santa may help out Grin) but I yearn for Berlin in autumn and Los Angeles in summer. I liked London and Bukhara enough to buy them already, but they are fairly year-round.

From the big names, I suggest Dune from Christian Dior. It's sophisticated and lasts well, but it's quite ozonic. Or Eau des Merveilles (Hermes) which is warm and ambery but not a grand classic like some of the Guerlains.

I have just bought Diptqyque L'ombres Dans L'eau EDP (the perfume version of their Baies candle) and fuck me it's definitely long lasting!

Amber musk - Astee Lauder Arin range

Mitzi067 · 08/11/2021 17:02

L'air du Tèmps is gorgeous. Search online as price range varies. My daughter bought a 3-piece gift set for £20. Another favourite was Chloe Narcissus ((was £17 in Asda), although unable to find stock anywhere (USA sell it for $200 !).

Get you to a decent large John Lewis that has a Guerlain counter, and aim at the old classics (normally grouped together in testers on the counter) - L'Heure Bleu, Apres L'Ondee (my favourite), Jicky, Vol du Nuit, Mitsouko etc. Some are easier to find than others (I once bought a bottle of L'Heure Blue in TK Maxx!!) but with any luck you'll be able to sniff quite a few of the old classics. There really is nothing like them.

Or, if you're near London, go to Penhaligon and have a sniff-fest there. You can buy samples of Penhaligon scents on ebay fairly cheaply but I find some are really off-putting so you really need to go to the shop first.

I have seen L'air du Tèmps in TK Maxx too, though not recently. It's lovely stuff.
