High heels hurt the ball of my feet - any relief ideas?

I'm not even talking particularly high heels. The balls of my feet get very painful and blistered. I generally don't wear them but would like to for evenings out. I can manage to get from car to restaurant but walking more than a few minutes kills me. Does anyone have any recommendations for an insole perhaps? (party feet gels don't help much). I feel like I need something to stick to the bottom of my foot to provide cushioning.

Wear flatter shoes

MrsBertBibby · 29/10/2021 08:39

Ditch them. I have. It's great!

rrhuth · 29/10/2021 08:41

This makes me confused, why persist in wearing something that hurts?

High heels look shit anyway, they are outdated. So it's a win-win to ditch them.

PurplePansy05 · 29/10/2021 08:42

Following with interest. I get this with high heels, high wedges and also shoes that are too flat. Are you half a size by any chance, OP? I am a 4.5 and noticed it only happens with shoes that are half a size bigger (sadly majority don't come in half sizes!). Really would like to find a remedy other than only shopping in limited shoe shops.

Lanique · 29/10/2021 08:43

Just stop wearing high heels! Smile

rrhuth · 29/10/2021 08:43

People get pain with high heels because they are unnatural.

In other news, sticking pins in your eyes can cause pain...

giftswap2020 · 29/10/2021 08:44

I read a tip somewhere that taping together your third and fourth toes can relieve the pain? Not sure if it actually works, it was just something I read!

mynameiscalypso · 29/10/2021 08:45

I bought some insoles from FootActive which are for ball of the foot pain - I just got them on Amazon. I think they help a little for me.

That's interesting @PurplePansy05. I'm in-between sizes too.
OP I have the same problem. I'm also a short arse so have tried many times over the past 25 years to wear them. I'm so glad they aren't in fashion anymore. If I need to wear them, I always go for a small heel as a nod to it. My feet still bloody hurt afterwards though!
In fact the balls of my feet are often tender. Even now, sat in my PJs and having had a week off work (so living in trainers) I can feel the balls of my feet quietly throbbing. I've learnt to live with it Sad

oviraptor21 · 29/10/2021 08:55

For me some shoes are just better than others and it's all to do with being a really good fit so comfortable all around when sitting down.
Then make sure to walk as best you can in them. Use the heel. And stand on the heel. Distribute your weight to the heel when you can.

ExConstance · 29/10/2021 08:57

The M&S shoes with Insolia are very good for this problem. I think the structure of the frame of the shoe distributes weight more equally. I used to wear them when I was a solicitor in court all day and heels were more popular than they are now.

PurplePansy05 · 29/10/2021 11:37

Insolia are the only comfy ones, I agree, I wore them daily in work too. I had some comfy-ish ones from Dune and surprisingly, New Look too, but this was a rarity.

Feenie · 29/10/2021 11:44

I wore these for a few years and they were great.

Now have awful plantar fasciitis which will not bloody go after over a year, so think on, as my mother would say! @

NHS Podiatrist who spends all their working days trying to advice , prevent and ultimately repair .

Do yourself a huge favour and stop wearing them.
Your feet are complex structures that work bloody hard .
Think what they go through each step and I'll bet the farm your toebox is narrower than your weightbearing foot /toes ., so your toes ae compressed /overlapped . It's why we don;t wear clear shoes . Nobody would if they see what happens to your feet .

Would you continually jam your hand in the door and think "Oh that hurts" but keep doing it . Nope . ( I would hope Wink )

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/10/2021 12:04

Oh and do some calf stretching excercises otherwise your muscles will protest

Chrestomanciscat · 29/10/2021 14:10

Sanitary towels! Cheap and really do work for cushioning. Have a fab time 👍

MapleMay11 · 29/10/2021 17:48

Ditch the heels you have and buy shoes that are comfortable. I never have problems wearing heels and they definitely not outdated. I've bought several pairs of amazing designer heels his season to add to my collection.

SlipperTripper · 29/10/2021 18:54

Bonjela on your balls.

Or flats.

adrianmolesmole · 29/10/2021 19:11

I stopped wearing them for this reason. Just don't see the point in wearing anything that hurts!

MoltonSilver · 29/10/2021 19:28

Ditch them. They're dated anyway.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/10/2021 22:55

Bonjela on your balls

Riiiiight I am NOT going to recommend this to my patients ! I would risk getting some very saucy answers from some of them !

On a serious note though , why would you do something that you know will give you blisters ?
Your skin is actually shearing and forming a liquid layer to protect itself .
Would you rub your face till it blisters ?
No .

Leah2005 · 29/10/2021 22:58

@PurplePansy05 funnily enough I am a 4.5.
@user1471530109 I am only 5ft tall too and feel a bit dumpy sometimes so would like a bit if a heel for a bit of lift now and then. So all you hipsters, what do I wear on my feet if I'm wearing a midi wrap dress? I totally rocked the white trainers this summer but what to wear going into winter if I'm so last year with a heeled boot?

PurplePansy05 · 29/10/2021 23:13

I would really love more posters to answer OP's question rather than explaining to her and some of us upteen times why not to wear heels and how dated they are. I am pretty sure we get it. Please note we still want to wear them sometimes and that's our choice Thank you.

I look for to more practical tips Grin
