Facial hair becoming harder to hide. Plea for help. Pic included!

I've always had difficult facial hair but managed it over the years... however I caught sight in a photo of how bad it's become and vowed to change what I'm doing and fix it Blush

I've always lived with the creeping in hair around the edges- don't know if that's a big problem (although the kids make fun of it at school/work). But the stubble is showing badly on my upper lip and chin and that's what I'm most self-conscious about. Plucking doesn't last any time and the ones I pluck most are the thickest. Shaving leaves them growing stubble by afternoon. Is the answer IPL? Many thanks for any advice!

What about regular threading. You don't need long hairs like waxing it will get them as they appear

MerryMarigold · 28/10/2021 17:19

I had IPL when younger and never grown back, more than half my life ago. So worth it. Also did my bikini line. I am now getting one stubborn pube on my chin though (really thick and dark). I keep pulling it out and it keeps growing back! If you wax they shouldn't grow back thicker.

Quick update in case anyone sees: I bought a Braun IPL machine on Vinted and I can't believe how good it is already!

I've done two treatments and already the hair is taking much longer to reappear. I just don't have constantly reappearing 5 o clock shadow on my lip, the chin hairs are sparse and easier to get, and my underarms look totally different as they used to be dark from the roots even straight after shaving amd now they're thinning out. I wish I'd done this 20 years ago Smile Thank you all for your recommendations!

Great! If you save your pennies up and shell out for a course of laser using a Soprano I've machine then it will go permanently. Groupon have loads of discounts near me. My under arm and bikini area have comeplwtwkh gone so saving up for legs and moustache!

AllKnowingGerbil · 22/12/2021 10:38

Great news OP!

My chin is getting pretty hairy. Unfortunately I'm not sure lasers would work on me cos some of the bastard hairs are a glowing bright white. I use a flawless every day

TheLasrStraw · 22/12/2021 10:43

Thread upper lip and then Lumea - it really slows down regrowth.

Electrolysis for chin.

Thirtytimesround · 22/12/2021 10:51

Mine is hormonal and way way worse than yours. Started age 38ish. I shave twice a day :( Gonna have electrolysis some time.

I read that if the cause is hormones, for example PCOS, then IPL / laser stuff makes it much worse as it stimulates other follicles to grow hair!! So shave or electrolysis if there is any hormonal cause. IPL is good for legs etc but not for chin hair.

ittakes2 · 22/12/2021 11:04

I think your issue is shaving as that makes it worse.
Waxing reduces the hair growth.
Its normally to wax your side burns - beauticians list a price for it as standard.

Metabigot · 24/12/2021 10:31

Professional laser treatment changed my life. 6 sessions at £24 a time got rid if it for 2 years, regrowth much lighter, few top up sessions and it's gone again.

This is one situation where the masks have come in handy for me, they hide a multitude. I have very bad hair on my chin just on one side. Hereditary for sure. My mother had a beard, it got to the stage she just couldn’t keep up with it, she’d go to the beautician and the next day it was growing again.

Anyway I just wanted to say that I can’t see much hair on your photos. It looks light enough. I had two courses of laser in a clinic and it definitely helped me a lot, it just seems to be one particular spot that I have the hair in. I would definitely recommend trying that. I have a terrible fear of ending up with the problem my mother had, it was so embarrassing for her.
Laser is the way to go I think

I use an epilator for upper lip hair. A little one from Amazon cost about 20 quid. Really good for getting short hairs and much faster than tweezing

I have a Philips lumea and it is bloody brilliant. You probably won’t find it all that helpful for the lighter ‘peach fuzz’ hair at the side of your face but it’d probably work a treat on the thicker, darker hairs on your chin/jawline because of the contrast with your fair skin. There are usually some pretty good deals to be had, I’ve had the more expensive ‘gun’ version and the cheapest little corded version and find the corded version just as good (just a slightly smaller window, not cordless and not multiple heads but fine for facial use and does the job just as well, also less unwieldy to use!).

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 24/12/2021 11:05

Oh I’ve just seen your update @Palomadoves ❤️. Excellent Smile

Crazykatie · 24/12/2021 11:25

I have loads, must have high testosterone or something, OH often reminds me that I havn’t been attending to it. I have one of those plucker things, works quite well but it is a fiddle.

OhPeeQueue · 24/12/2021 11:33

Yep, Philips Lumea is a money saver in the long run. Had mine 7 years now. I wonder if the zaps are coming to an end, but I don’t have a mustache or hairy cheeks anymore. I still have to maintain with zapping once a month or so.

DDMAC · 24/12/2021 12:29

Just looked them up, it really is an investment and worth the money I’m sure.
