Help me find work trousers

I'm looking for work trousers in the plural.

I started a new job before lockdown and had bought some navy drawstring trousers from M&S which haven't washed great and the fabric is floppy and shapeless.

I also bought their black bootleg flare trousers which looked neater but I can't fit into them anymore.

I'm recycling the same dress for the 1 day a week we are back in the office, and I can't progress refreshing tops etc. without the trouser situation sorted.

So I'm looking for:

  1. A high waisted trouser (mid would be acceptable) with a flat front and side or back zip and a wide leg in good quality medium weight fabric.
  1. Same as 1. but twill cotton with a straight leg.

Colours black, navy or grey. It's a smart casual office but I sometimes go out to meet clients. I'm 5.6 and my shape is hard to define, I would say I'm an X shape but the key issue is I have violin hips, or as I recently learned hip dips, and I need trousers to have weight or firmness.

I'm going to go and try them on and can think of JL, more suggestions and any brands or trousers I should look at welcome.

I want them to last a long time, budget about £150, will consider sales. Help!

Is that £150 per pair or for all the pairs? Seasalt is good for thicker good quality trousers I find, only thing is not sure if they would be smart enough, it depends on your office vibe. x

This is the type of wide trouser:

I guess elasticated waist is better for future proofing! Just not quite as £££ preferably. The fabric is spot on though.

Me and Em and Cefinn make my favourite work trousers.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 26/10/2021 22:33

It was for both. I guess at a push one wide leg could see me through for now.

I also need trousers for home so will look at Seasalt. They need to be comfy to sit in all day is a key consideration.

The office vibe is mixed- it got too casual so they told everyone to smarten up before Covid. Now we are back, some are trying more but some are in denim skirts and black jeans. I'm one of the more external facing so feel I have to make more effort.

Ooh thanks will look at Cefinn.

I love Me and Em - will have a closer look.

On the link I shared there is a model wearing the wide trousers with a roll neck, it looks very understated but smart, that's the feeling I'm aiming for.

M&S do wide keg trousers.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 26/10/2021 22:49

I'm not too sure about the Cefinn ones. I don't think I want belt hoops. Will look again though.

These are lovely:

They don't really tick the straight leg trouser box though. They are like option 3. I used to have a pair of Marks and Spencer velvet leggings and wore them to work to death, back before the quality got diabolical and they started to coat them with something that initially feels amazing then becomes a balding cat after one wash. I can see myself wearing these leggings with a long shirt or oversized roll neck. They would get a lot of wear.

Thanks I'll have a look in M&S, there is one near work.

The Me and Em ones have too much pleating and tapering or too much fabric for me. I did see a pair of dark olive palazzo pants that I think I might invest in for casual though. I could see myself wearing them a lot.

Found a nice straight leg though its a polyester blend, but with a lot of twill:

I got these from tesco last week - I can't find them online but they are the slim jeans in the picture if you scroll down a bit. www.tesco.com/zones/clothing/womens/denim

They don't look very jean-y, they seem more like chinos and are quite thick. I wear them with brogues and a fitted shirt or blouse so that smartens them up a bit, although maybe a bit slimmer than you want.

MsDastardley · 27/10/2021 05:12

Have you had a look at Hobbs. I got my work trousers from there, Annie which are slim leg, and Zadie which are wide leg crop. Both very flattering and good weight fabric . They’ve got loads of styles.

Saltpepperbutter · 27/10/2021 06:11

Boden ponte trousers are very comfy. I have the Hampshire style but there are also wide leg ones. They are a good weight and I haven’t found that they go baggy.

I bought some lovely wool trousers from Cos recently. I wore them for the first time recently and they felt so comfortable on. Their website maybe worth a look?

bananagram18 · 27/10/2021 07:22

I bought two pairs of these from M&S as I needed work trousers that were comfortable and not too pricey. They are surprisingly nice, good weight material, good length and have had a few compliments. I got black and grey. www.marksandspencer.com/wide-leg-trousers/p/clp60506507?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share

Also have you looked at lucy & yak?
