Sore, red painful skin on my face.

I have always had a bit of redness on my face but nothing like this. I had these red, raw, painful dry patches on my face. Every morning they are read and flaky.
I've usually just used La Roche-Posay Cicaplast - because it's what those patches can tolerate. Then I use other moisturisers on the rest of my face.
But all my skin has got drier and these patches are just so so sore.
I cleanse with Emma Hardie and Clinique.
I've tried Weleda skin food and it just hurts!
Emma Hardie facial oil is quite soothing but by the morning its just the same.
I'm 53 and have a good diet and I drink lots of water.
Any help would be amazing. I feel and look awful.

If it’s chapping from colder weather then Vaseline can work - it creates a barrier and soothes and moisturises. It’s obviously not the most ‘natural’ product but might be worth giving it a go if you already have some in a cupboard!

@Callcat I got the blue top Aveeno and tried it last night and this morning its a lot better. Flaky still but not painful and the redness has reduced a lot.
Thanks so much.

@Hooplawho I am going to do that when I'm out and I know my skin needs protection from the elements. Thank you.

I was going to recommend Aveeno Dermexa cream, but I see you've bought it!
You could also try a tiny smear of Sudocrem under cream at night.
When my eczema flared up, it was as effective as a steroid( which isn't recommended for the face anyway)
I've been using Cerave recently which maybe worth a try, but stick to whatever works best for you

The Aveeno has made such a difference. My skin looks better than it has in years.

Hooray. Thanks so much for all your help. Xx

@ADreadedSunnyDay - just out of interest why do you say not E45? I use this cream and the emolient wash and find them good but then again I've not used much else. I don't use the wash to cleanse my face though, I love Liz Earle cleanse and polish, makes my face feel really fresh whereas emolient washes do nothing for my facial skin.

Silverstreaks · 29/10/2021 08:33

Which Clinique product are you using. Some of their stuff is incredibly harsh.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 29/10/2021 09:47

@citygirl1961
reason I said to OP to avoid E45 was because it has lanolin in it , and lanolin can be an irritant for many people. IMO it's best to use an alternative product (of which there are many) until you can work out what ingredient(s) if any is causing the problem. If E45 is fine for you you know you don't have a problem with lanolin. Lots of people on here talk about Aveeno - works well for some people but for me it breaks me out in redness, a rash.
Both me and DS have eczema / skin problems so I've become more familiar with all the trial and error this entails

I have rosacea and had very sore patches of red skin until the dr gave me Soolantra. Complete game changer
