My daughter - who is 14 - has lovely long, thick hair. When she was younger and it was shorter it was very curly but it's now wavy. She finds it very difficult to style it. She yearns to have swishy hair like Monica and Rachel from Friends Smile She has found www.popsugar.co.uk/beauty/lolavie-glossing-detangler-review-48548769 this product online but it's not on sale in the UK. Can anyone recommend something similar that is available in the UK? Thanks.

Swishy hair she can run her fingers through easily is what she yearns for Smile

I’ve found the trick is to use way, way more conditioner than seems reasonable until you can easily finger comb wet hair. Then leave it a while.
My hair doesn’t tangle as much since I started doing this. Before I was using a blob in my hand now it’s more like a third of a bottle.
I used to use various sprays but now I don’t need to.

I have started washing with As I am coconut co wash instead of shampoo followed by a silicone free conditioner, my usually tangled hair is gorgeous! Not greasy at all. Turns out shampoo wasn’t for me.

I like Mane & Tail Detangler spray - it's a leave in that you comb through wet hair and it worked wonders on my (long, thick and wavy) hair when it was really dry and coarse from overprocessing. It's widely available and not expensive either Smile.

Canter Mane n Tail plus a blob of Cowboy Magic. Swish, swish.

My daughter has started using mane and tail shampoo and detangling spray. Also combing through while conditioner on helps tangles. She also loves her Denmam tangle tamer brush.

This and the coconut one have dramatically improved my hair. I use as a conditioner but you can leave in I think. Not expensive

My DS has long, afro type hair and gets on with this.

Agadorsparticus · 25/10/2021 21:36

Lots of conditioner and a tangle teezer to brush it through before rinsing off.

Couldhavebeenme3 · 25/10/2021 21:40

Marketing nonsense.

Any old conditioner. I use L'Oréal oil (just a couple of squirts max) before brushing.

If her hair is naturally wavy it's never going to be like Monica's or Rachel's (as theirs is professionally 'done' before each show) without loads of blow drying and straightening, so she needs to invest in a good heat protection spray too.

I had wavy hair down to my elbows as a teenager, and hated it. My daughter has the same (but really blonde) and flip-flops between loving it wavy and straight. The secret is to get a really good cut so she can enjoy swishy straight or bouncy beach. Widest GHDs were worth every single penny.

Thanks very much everyone 😃

Monica and Rachel had their hair blow dried before each episode was filmed. And their hair was laminated.

Your daughter might want to learn to use babyliss big hair, or just learn how to give herself a professional style blow dry. It really is key to that swishy look.

For added slip and shine you need to add oil to the hair. There are tons to try.

Taoneusa good points. Thank you.

My daughter has very similar hair to your dad - extremely thick and shiny and slightly wavy. I only recently discovered by accident that she conditions her hair first, then does all her body scrubbing etc whilst the conditioner soaks in, and shampoos last. Might just be a coincidence but her hair is remarkable and hairdressers always comment on it. I suspect it’s mostly good hair genes though (which did not come from meSmile). But might be worth trying to reverse the shampoo/conditioner to see what happens. I now do it when my hair is a bit too dry and it does help. I also only shampoo when/where needed.

HH76ds31 · 27/10/2021 17:29

your dd not dad - autocorrect! Sorry

LadyJJ · 27/10/2021 21:59

L'Oreal Mythic oil!
I use it on my extensions, but it transforms my dps mad thick very long waves (that he often sleeps with wet :/) into sleek pretty hair.

Thanks everyone. Flowers
